First of all, before everyone start calling me a troll, a noob or simply flame me, I will state that I am a noob.
Regarding my question. Everytime I've been in nullsec I've been poded by gate campers. Battleship, battlecruiser, whatever ship I was flying, I was outnumbered and completely warp jammed lol. There is thousand of players in nullsec. Don't tell me you all have 6 accounts so that when you move through gates you protect yourself?

You survive in 0.0 by being in the same alliance as the guys camping the entry points.

There are areas of 0.0 (Providence) with a NRDS (not red, don't shoot) policy; their gate camps kill characters who are flagged as hostile, but they let neutrals rat and mine in the areas they control. You can still be killed by pirates, but most people in that space will be friendly to you. I'd suggest flying down there (use a cheap ship, just in case) and seeing how things go.
Other than that, all 0.0 space (and that includes NPC-held 0.0) is controlled by alliances that will shoot trespassers on sight.
You have a couple options:
1) Join a 0.0 alliance. 2) Make a deal with a 0.0 alliance to set your standings blue (positive) in exchange for $$$. Some will do this, some won't.
(In both these cases, you still have the problem of getting through the gate camps on the way to your new home in 0.0, but maybe your new friends can help. It also means that you can collect loot and salvage and resupply ammo at the local outposts or POSes. Unless you're Amarr with t1 crystals, you can't spend very long in 0.0 without restocking ammo, and you don't want to have to go back to high sec to restock.)
3. Sneak in. Jump into 0.0 with a fast ratting ship (Hurricanes are good) just after downtime. Have a cloak fit. If all the gates are camped, make a safe spot, log out, come back later and try to get further. The goal here will be to get 20-30 jumps into lightly populated areas of 0.0 (since gatecamps tend to be clustered around entrances to 0.0) where you can rat for hours without seeing another capsuleer passing by. Again, you'd want to make several safe spots in your ratting system(s), warp to them and cloak when the locals notice you and bring in the carriers. NPC-controlled 0.0 is a good place to aim for (pirate space, Great Wildlands, etc), since you can dock at the NPC stations and refit/restock/sell loot, but those areas do tend to be more populated.
(Wormholes are very nice for this - if you find a wormhole leading from high sec into deep 0.0, it's an excellent shortcut.)

There are a number of practical flying tips that can be used to avoid getting shot up by 0.0 gatecamps.
Here are a few: 1) Fly something small and agile - an interceptor works really well as it can burn out of a bubble. Frigates are also good, if you can keep the speed up. 2) Never warp to 0 on a gate or a station. There might be a drag bubble which will put you just out of reach of the gate/station. 3) Always warp in to a bookmark or a nearby planet or use some other method to land yourself far enough from the gate to not end up in the bubble, then scan the gate to see who/what is there. 4) use a cloak - especially on a Blockade Runner or a CovOps ship......but sometimes good on other ships. 5) Use a scout - either an alt or a corp mate. Especially if you're flying a larger ship. Ship moving gangs should prepared to fight it out if necessary. 6) Freighters and Orcas only belong in 0.0 as part of a highly organised gang with appropriate support. Battleships should have a scout or be part of a gang in most cases. Solo work in Battleships is quite specialised and not for PvP newcomers. 7) Watch local, subscribe to the intel channels and look for support from corp mates.

You don't. I'm in a zero sec alliance, and I've been station camping, i.e sitting in an outpost for 2 weeks. Mainly because all my stuff are in another outpost whose owner moved out and now I don't have docking rights. I COULD make the odd 30 jumps to highsec with a seriously expensive frigate to get myself a new barge & battleship (on seperate trips) through several hostile gatecamps I might add (back and forth). If by some miracle and about of week of waiting and scouting actively to find an opening to pass through I manage it, I'm most likely going to be shipless again in less than a week ;)
Zero sec is so not worth it

A long time back I decided to see if null sec mining was worth it, so I took a retriever out to find what I could find (I could not fly a hulk back then).
Rule 1 - Do not fly what you can't afford to lose. I built and fitted a new Retriever solely for the purpose of my test flight and expected to lose it.
Rule 2 - From that great strategist - Sun Tzu Section 11.3 " When he has penetrated into hostile territory, but to no great distance, it is facile ground." Section 11.11 "...On facile ground, halt not. ..."
ie: When in hostile territory, don't stop moving. You stop, you get found and you get killed.
Rule 3 - Information Use the star map to tell you how many people are in teh systems you plan to travel through. Its not immediately up dated.. so be prepared to jump to a system with 3 people.. and find 10. In general, for a new player, if there is anyone there.. don't go :)
The above 3 Rules work for short sprints into and out of low sec, but not long term life. For that .. join a Null Sec Corp.
Oh ... BTW ... the retriever made it in and out, about 5 jumps into NULL .. but between the Rats, the constant warping to find systems with no one in local and the lack of good ore to mine (no ABC in high level null sec) it was not worth the effort...

Edited by: Don Pellegrino on 10/12/2009 17:45:24 Yeah, 0.0 is not solo players friendly.
You need friends to survive. Not a blob. 8-10 is enough and will often get nice fights and will kill a lot of lonely ratters during a roam.
You didn't tell us what you're doing in 0.0, so I did my best to help you with the little information you gave us.
edit: just realized this is Science & Industry. Yeah, have friends with a scout or rent space or join an alliance that will protect you for a % of your profits.

You can sneak into 0.0, but it takes patience and persistence. Some gates are always camped, some rarely are. Some are camped at certain times but not at others; right after uptime and right before downtime are usually clear.
When it comes down to it, however, the best way to survive in 0.0 is to have friends. Friends who will show you the ropes, friends who will watch your back, and friends for you to back up when they need it.

The problem with that null space needs defending.
I'd guess your best bet is to find a group of renters who have good landlords that will defend them ( this is actually pretty rare ), or train up to PvP and join a corp in an alliance with some good mining. Though bear in mind your mining time will be interrupted by demands to do combat ops.
From what I've seen ( admittedly not that much ) a lot of mining in null is done by alts of PvPers during quiet times.
As to the OP your best bet is join a corp that will handle your logistics for you using carriers etc. or train them up yourself.

Thank you. Much appreciated information.
To the original questioner: I moved day 3 in game to 0.o. Luckily my corp was active in my training. 0.o is still no place for a Noob. Even as active in my training as they have been ~ not until now did I learn one of the above. My corp disbanded. I still have not discovered how to find a 'good-for-me' corp. PVP in 0.o and low-sec are totally different. Be prepared for instant death in low-sec trying to get to 0.o.
Everyone is right, prepare to die, however, the only real way to learn to live in 0.o is to go out and start dying. You will learn, sooner or later a killer will take you in and then you will have tons of fun. I am a converted former CareBear Extrodinaire, there is so much fun to be had dying in 0.o. Some of the best worst times are to be had there. Don't get too scared to give it a try ~
When someone eventually kills you, You will instantly be back in safe territory so you can always not go back.

Once you understand the mechanics of the game, its gets a lot easier to move around, fairly freely, most the time (tm).
You also learn to never fly what you can't afford to lose--very quickly-- and sometimes the quickest way somewhere is the way you *don't* wanna go.
When in doubt-- just see how many you can kill before they get you

It's already been said in this thread, but I'll repeat it: small/agile ships have a better chance of traveling through nullsec than bigger ships do. Flying through a hostile gate camp with a battleship will usually result in an expensive loss, but flying through a hostile gate camp in a covert ops frigate or an interceptor will be a much safer strategy. A Tech-1 frigate would work too, and even if you do get killed, it's a very small loss.
Still, you're going to lose your ship eventually. Clear Skies Day of Darkness |

Of course small ships have an easier time threading the needle into 0.0. But if you're solo, precisely what are you going to DO up there, with a frigate or an interceptor?
You can courier something up without a whole lot of problem, but the pirates there aren't going to explode the moment a drone looks at them. You need decent firepower and decent survivability to deal with them... which means a ship large enough that it's going to have a problem running a gate camp.
There's lots of uses for little ships in 0.0, but that's mostly in concert with other players. Solo players can rat, or they can mine, or they can probe, but you can't 0.0 mine or rat or probe in a frigate. (Well, you can't do anything with what you FIND with the probes...)
I guess you could try salvaging, but most people in 0.0 are at least a little paranoid, and if they see you hunting around, they'll hunt you right back, or they'll warp away until you take off.

That's the problem. As a solo player it's relatively easy to get into and out of 0.0, and you can generally fly around with impunity. You will still lose ships to career campers who train for warp bubbles and near-instantaneous targetting, but even these can be avoided (much to their frustration) with the right combination of ship and tactics.
However, if you want to do anything beyond simple tourism, you will need to stop somewhere and the locals will take much more interest in someone who persists in local instead of simply passing through.
To stay you will need to join a 0.0 alliance a consequence of whioh will be that a significant portion of your time in-game will be spent doing tasks that are more like working in an office than having fun.
My advice, join a 0.0 corp, be co-operative and listen to what they teach you. As you learn and become more compentant you will be more trusted so eventually you will be able to steal billions from their corp and set up your own. Then you can hire new players into your corp and have them do all the tedious stuff you had to do.
Alternatively, stay in hi-sec and make billions from industry and use some of the profits to finance touristic suicide-runs into 0.0.

I find it very interesting that most threads about 0.0 end up being the whole risk verses reward argument.
I'll put it quite simply: it's a game with internet spaceships. Some people play just to have fun and don't care how much money they make. 0.0 is a great place to go to learn how to PvP and work as a group, and also how to survive in hostile territory alone. You can learn much about the game by going to (or even living in) 0.0 and low-sec. You can make quite a bit out in 0.0; but comparing the returns to L4 missions is just stupid. On another note, I also have an annoying sig.
