I just reactivated my account last weekend to see how the recent x-pack is. In any case I inevitably end up on the forums reading up on the latest issues and what not.
I am seeing a bunch of troll posts about salvaging but I can't seem to find what started all of it. Did they (CCP) make a change that is causing people to rage in a really annoying way or was nothing changed and the forums have a new, annoying meme that is in play?

Salvaging has become an issue because it's really lucrative (often worth more than mission and loot combined) and some people have made it their business to salvage what others have killed before they had the chance to do it themselves. So lots of people rage against what is called "ninja salvaging".

I've been encountering salvagers a lot recently. I'm not sure what the change is but they have certainly gotten bold. I notice a lot of missioners, characters as old as me, raging at them in the local chats like they had no idea their wrecks could be salvaged by someone else. It's crazy.

As the above. I found it strange though considering that since the rigchanges salvage value is now on average far less than it was pre rigchanges.

Nope, same old same old. Salvaging is worth about 1/3 of the total mission reward (bounties and loot being the other 2/3) - mission runners feel entitled to all of it tho, so they get upset when ninja salvagers "invade" "their" missions. Meh, it's a competitive game, get used to it.

Gotcha. Yeah it can be annoying but vultures are part of any society. Why it should be different in EvE is beyond me.

Salvaging is worth it if you can salvage on the fly. If you have to come back to salvage or delay mission completion to salv, it is not worth it. With the ease of probing now, people are probing out mission runners and salvaging their wrecks, which causes the missioner to go emo sometimes, which is what the ninja salvager is looking for.
It isnt about the cash, its a high sec greifing tactic because the ninja's mains in low sec have successfully forced 90% of people out of low. Typically you ignore a ninja salv, let them finish salving the mission you are on, and they wont show up to another one because they didn't have any visible "tears" from you.

Be careful buddy - ninja salvagers do their work at least partly (or, in some cases, almost totally) for the tears. Insulting them actually turns them on, and they'll hunt you down and salvage your missions non-stop until you have a nervous breakdown.
Better hope you're using an alt here.
I for one, welcome our ninja salvaging overlords!

A good word of warning, even if they start looting your wrecks it isn't a good idea to shoot them. Most of the ninjas that loot will have a logistic alt or two waiting and a pvp fit.

Nope, not an alt. I stand by what I said; however, if there are people doing it for other reasons than to make a relatively easy profit then they are obviously not vultures and I would hope that everyone playing this game is self aware enough to know what they are, what a "vulture" is and if that definition actually applies to them.

And that type of player is obviously not the vulture type. That is the type that gets their jollies harrasing people in high sec.

Then don't shoot the salvager, shoot the wreck, preferably before he gets to it.
You wouldn't believe the tears I've heard ninjas cry when "their" wrecks are shot out from under 'em... quite tasty, too :)

Meh, they are vultures. They choose to ignore targets that pose a challenge. Ganking pve people is about as boring as pve. A fun break sometimes, but mindnumbing in the long run.

Any Ninja crying in the local about some Butthurt Carebear shooting wrecks is a poser. Typically, this just gives us a reason to remember your Hull ID so we can get more EmoRage from you in your next mission (and the mission after that, etc.) or any number of other hi jinks. But yes, please do shoot the ninjas. It's the only way to drive them off.

Nice alt.
Ninja-salvagers are just a stale FOTM. ---
Even though you might disagree with what I say, that doesn't automatically make me a troll. |

I think there's been an expansion in the amount of salvagers because it's hands-down the best way for a newb to make money. I started recently on a 21 day trial, and within that period I not only earned enough to set up a "salvage combo"(scan/salvage frigs) in a major hub in each race's space, but payed for the PLEX to make myself a full account.
There are half a dozen youtube vids explaining the process very clearly, it has a low barrier of entry skill wise, and even the newbie guides you can find on evesearch list it as a good way to start out.
Personally Im not interested in "tears" that much, and most MRs are reasonable about it, the few that aren't simply aren't worth the time to **** off. In the time it takes me to fly through your whole mission ensuring you have to destroy all the wrecks, I could have scanned down and salvaged two other sites and made 10mil.
I will say one thing; Don't bull**** in local and say you wouldn't have minded "if only you'd asked first" etc, because it's not true, a lot of us do ask, and in 21 days I found a grand total of TWO MRs who actually responded.

Tried before. If i head to a cruiser heavy mission, i'll offer the salv in local for anyone that wants to clean up. Nobody has taken me up on it.
