I've just got back into the game as of last night and have picked up where I was. Namely roaming around 0.0 in a frig looking to draw tacklers off blobs and get the odd other kills here or there.
Of course there's plenty of people sat at POS in 0.0 so I've been playing about scanning and finding where these people are and going for a look.
Some of the time people appear to be sat just outside the forcefield. Is this an illusion or does this happen often? If I where to want to go for a quick kill how would I get a warp in near them? I can't bookmark their ship, do I need to track their alignment between a celestial and the POS tower and approach from that direction? This assumes they haven't been moving about in the pos of course and sounds a bit fiddly
finally.... how long to small, med and large towers tend to take to lock a frig... I appreciate this varies.
I will continue to experiment with this but thought it might be worth having a discussion here.
Thanks for reading my ramble.

Congrats for agressivness, but the only way for you to shoot something at a properly fit POS in a frigate is to wait for that something to leave the POS so you can gank it out in the belts. I wouldn't even attmpt a quick strike in an SB, honestly.
If you want to know more about POS's and thier vulnerabilities, best find a POS tutorial and study it.
Otherwise, find a corp and skill up into a BS or Dread. Good luck.

Problem with SBs is now that they arent good against small targets, so solo alpha striking something is a problem, might work against industrials though, someone else will know better. However before SB changes it was no problem to alpha strike a frig outside pos shields long before you were locked. So if you do enough damage it certainly is possible, but no idea how long exactly you have.

stealth bomber with dual painters might be able to get a quick kill if you target the right ship. especially if said ship isnt moving. bomb hits 1 volly of torps and get gone. still very very risky, be ready to lose a bunch of stealth bombers. also remember that you have to stay on grid for your torpeados to hit and do damage. still all your gonna get is maby a un buffered industrail, or a afk tec 1 frig. I would think that since the ordanance your gonna expend is going to outweigh the value of any kills its not really worth it.

You can warp to the cyno that the enemy frigate is making.
Medium POS guns have a scan resolution of 75, so they take longer to lock you than a BS would. Small guns have a resolution of 250, the same as a BC with no booster. You need a thrasher to 1 shot the frig and get away, or use a frig and warp out a few times, the cyno ship can not move for 10 minutes.

Thanks for the replies, some helpful things there.
I feel I should clarify...
I never mentioned stealth bombers or cynos. I've seen plenty of interceptors and uncloaked covert ops amongst other frigates, I'm generally in an incursus or 'ranis myself.
I've kinds of concluded you need to observe their location compared to celestials and re approach from that angle, by which time all but the afkers have left ~

Actually it's not that risky in a Stealthbomber.
If the POS fits medium guns, you can decloak and get 3 torp vollies off, recloak/uncloak and repeat.
If they're AFK you can kill just about anything. --------------------------------------------
