Edited by: Mohaddib on 18/12/2009 08:31:05 hi there, after a year of carebearing, i have decided to move to 0.0 and join a pvp corp. we will be doing gate camping and casual pvp with 2-3 people gangs, and also we are goin to rat and do plexes / wh fun in our spare time. i can use all matar ships (including Loki and vargur but im not thinking about bringing a marauder down there) and most of the amarr ships t2 (hacs, command ships,Legion), and also all t1 caldari ships.
i am thinking about taking down my sleipnir (i dont care if i lose it), but is there something you can recommend for general purpose? i.e how about a tempest for fleet battles, or the new phoon? or maybe else?
i have enough money to buy anything t2 or t1, and i can use all modules and weapons t2.

Start with rifter
After you warm up a bit and grab mechanics better, any of those ships you listed will do good depends on your fit/gang.
Losing a ship is more than loosing money... So fly with what you can afford, i am not fan of giving people juicy killmails myself...

i have flown with rifter in faction warfare actions. its quite versatile but dunno, i got so used to use t2 ships because of missions, using a t1 ship sounds weird to me :D

Your noob solo sleipnir will be someone's comedy killmail.
Your first trip into 0.0 would ideally be made in a Cheetah. Go look around, make bookmarks:- safespots, scan spots, gate tacticals. See where the busy pipelines are and where the quiet backwaters are, find out whhich gateway systems are good to use and which are heavily camped.

i am hearing that too much that i think i must take this warning serious. then i guess i will be going with an interceptor or a covert ops ship (maybe a stealth bomber??). at least i am going to have a chance to run till i learn how to play. thanx for the replies.

Definitely go take a look with covert first. After you are familiar with the landscape use Hurricane (cheap, effective, reasonable agile and with decent firepower) for pvp stuff and the like. Sleipnir is really nice ship but it¦s expensive and not that much better than cane.

Look into: Scimitar, Guardian, Sabre, Broadsword, Zealot, Curse, Rapier, Vagabond for t2 ships that may be very useful for small gang pvp and in case of Scimi/Guardian/Zealot also for pve. I'd probably start with a sabre or the logistics but thats just me.
For bs both a Maelstrom or Phoon might be what you're looking for depending on your needs. For fleet stuff a Rokh may also be a good pick.
Let me also stress that from my experience with 2-3 man gangs tackling is often a problem because people cba. So i'd really train for a sabre.
Also if you're new to pvp start with insurable stuff like Ruppi/Cane/Harb like the other guys said. --

I'd bring a Hurricane, Vagabond, or a Rifter. All three are fantastic PVP ships either in gangs or solo. Bringing a logistics like a Guardian or Scimitar would also will put you in high demand for gangs.

Nothing wrong with this, just dont have an expensive fit, or implants :)
If it's only going to be a small loss, theres nothing wrong with having a look see :) Try to fit an mwd and learn how to stand a chance of surviving bubbles and you are good to go.

i guess i will start with an interceptor, and then a vagabond afterwards (if i lose that inty, i'll bring a rifter but i want to try a t2 ship first). thanx for the advices.

If you have spent a year carebearing then you must be a multi billionaire! Well my friend show these poor noobs who is the winner of high sec by bringing your faction fit marauder into 0.0. Everyone will fear you! It's probably best to come to Venal for your first foray into 0.0 as the guys who live there are low sp noobs who can't hit the side of a barn. If you see me or my alliance in venal be sure to wave to us in local and announce your location so we can look at your lovely ship.

The only thing to be aware of is that he's joining a PVP corp. I've been in "PVP corps" that are of the opinion that if it isn't either a T2 ship or a battleship you shouldn't bring it on a corp/alliance op. While I personally find this to be ridiculous, it's something to watch out for.
If they don't let you bring a Rifter, bring a Sabre or Cheetah. I've only had my Sabre turned down on one op, and *never* had a covops turned down.

Well to be sorta comprehensive, what you need in 0.0 is 4 ships: 1. a ship suitable for fleet battles for your corp/alliance - usually BS/logistics/dictors 2. a mobile ship that is suitable for whatever type of roaming ops your corp likes to do. for some corps, this is BC, some require sniper HAC, some like vagas. depends on corp. 3. a ratting ship if you are gonna rat. 4. some kinda cloaked ship to courier stuff from empire you need or to scout for fleet. cov ops/blockade runner.
more or less i suppose

I roll with the big boys and we know how to steamroll our opponents. I can tell you that it's not done by using crappy Tech I frigs. Bringing a rifter to a 0.0 op is just a waste of gangslot tbh. You're not contributing with anything special to the gang and if it were up to me, I'd shoot you myself for being a cheepskate and letting others pull the weight of the gang.
Out there, in nullsec, you need hardware to cope with task at hand. Everyone and their mother is flying T2, so should you or you dont belong there in the first place.

Kernite Commando are probably the most feared and revered PvP corporation in Eve, you should listen to what he says. By "feared and revered" I do of course mean completely meaningless and by "listen to what he says" I do mean that you should read his post and do everything you can to never ever be anything like him. An important thing in pvp, is hardening your nerves. There is a good deal of risk&reward, and after a good long break OP may need to "warm up". Like mentioned above, exploring the area and getting familiar, flying in some cheap ships (solo or if with gang, ceptor maybe), kill some and lose some ect.
About ops, ofc both skills and ship you are flying must not hinder the fleet or get unsignificant. All advices i have given applies the part that you do before getting into corp ops.

Start out with either a covert ops or a BC.
A covert ops is good for getting a feel for 0.) with out dying.
A BC is good for being able to actually fight but not costing a fortune when you die from a rookie mistake.
Wherever you went - Here you are.

drake hands down imo. Its cheap to lose and difficult to screw up in terms of piloting. Lock, fire, watch. It can rat just fine in a PvP fit. Most people won't even bother attacking it. Its got enough EHP to survive till help arrives. Furthermore, when you do get killed, it will last long enough for you to actually digest what is happening to you, which is nice if you don't have much PvP experience.
