Second stupid question: what the hell should a mothership do?
- carry a fleet from system to system with a 25 lightyear jump range, a 30 minute jupmdrive spoolup, and a 23 hour jumpdrive cooldown - provide refit/repair services for the fleet it transports - carry troops and planetary assault craft - be an unpiloted corporate asset with a forcefield and the ability to deploy POS guns - if the enemy manages to break down its forcefield (reinforce n/a) and suicide ram it with a titan, it makes a truly humongous explosion that destroys the mothership and the ramming titan, does 100% shield damage to all ships in space anywhere in the system, does 50% armor and hull damage to all ships on grid, disables random modules of ships on grid (50% chance for each mod), and kills local in that system until 2 downtimes have passed.
The best part is, nearly all of these ideas would fit within existing game mechanics. It's an interesting variation on the hive ships idea from a while back. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |

The fleet jump is great, it's a great tool and not overpowered.
Refit/repair is pretty much already there for carriers, right? Some logistics modules and you're all set.
What are troops and planetary assault craft?
I support the idea of unmanned supercapitals, since having a character married to the ship is always dumb, and being able to dock them is even dumber, so that's a good idea.
Suicide ram? With a Titan? That's silly. Use guns to kill it. I also think that the modules it has fitted should be individually salvageable, so you can knock it out, and then pull off the good bits and repair them for use on your own mothership. The ship itself would be un-stealable, and could either be repaired and reclaimed by the owner or totally destroyed by the aggressor.
Also, no explosion could possible affect ships throughout the system simultaneously. It would take hours for the light from the explosion to go a few hundred AU, and there are some very big systems out there. What sort of crazy hyperspace shockwave are you envisioning here?

I've been hawking collateral damage for some time. Everything from simple proximity shield damage of nearby (<15km) craft up to what is pretty extreme collateral damage above for titan class detonations. Brings on a whole new outcome if you knew you were going to lose all your drones and had a chance of losing your ship based on how far from ground zero you were. My god .. it's full of stars ! |

You should be keeping track of what CCP likes to do with the world of EvE. After all, you live in it... Linkalicious
