I keep hearing how generally useless training Rockets, Defender, and Friend-or-Foe missiles are.
Just in case, can anyone give some good reasons or situations for training these skills before I totally pass them by and forget them? Thanks for any wise words.

FoF - when you jammed and can't lock target, these missiles will fire at closest aggressor. But its not recommended otherwise. Rockets and defender are useless.

Bumping because I heard somewhere awhile back that rocket training can still be useful in very limited areas? (Maybe a tight orbit in a super-fast frigate when turrets can no longer track and it's better DPS than light missiles?)
Thanks for the info on the FoF.

Rockets are slow shortrange missiles (as far as I understand).
Defenders are actualy prity usefull if you have a spare missile slot, and not much fitting left (on some turret boats for example). Biggets problem here is that you my need several defenders to shoot down a missile becouse they do to little dammage.

Edited by: Sewer Urchin on 28/12/2009 17:57:29 Rockets are kind of gimped atm but I wouldn't say they're not worth training at all. I use them for pvp on Merlins and sometimes on Assault Frigates. Also, I've never seen or heard of anybody using defender missiles.

Rockets aren't great but depending on play style can be useful. On a minmatar indy I have standing farming for better r&d agents I run them with AC's. Up close and personal anyway with fusion S ammo, the small dps boost helps take down the odd persistant target quicker.

defenders are a waste of time. don't fly anything small enough to put rockets on so no idea about them.
fofs on the other hand i've found to be useful for clearing away tackler frigs. nothing in the stats listed provides any info to say why but they seem to work significantly better on frigs than standard missiles do of the same size. i always carry 2k fofs for contingency work.

Defenders are genaraly useless....
Rockets are just crap atm... dont know why ccp is not looking at them.
FOF's while tehy have limited use, they are actually uesfull to cary a small amount around with in a missile ship. just incase you get jammed or damped to hell they will at least have a limited use and does not hurt really to have some in the hold.

The problem with rockets is they're designed to hit small, light ships, but their explosion radius and velocity is such they do a mere fraction of their EFT DPS in almost all real-world situations.
I haven't bothered with rockets since they got nerfed - I have yet to find a single fit that benefits more from rockets than from fitting a small neut, or just leaving the slots empty and fitting larger guns.
