Hi, I signed up for a month a week or so ago and so far it is a massive learning curve. However my problem is that when I use the star map it crashes my system. I'm not talking hit Ctrl Alt Del and close the program, I'm talking complete system freeze, restart the PC to get back control. It happens every time I use it, in station or in space. I'm running the game on Windows 7 64, Core i7 Cpu, Radeon HD 7970, 16Gb 1600Mhz Ram, SSD drive, latest drivers on everything. I also tried it on Windows 8 preview release, same hardware same issue. I just paid the $40.00 with startup fee and it looks like I might have to eat it if I can't solve this problem. I realise I can play without the Map but it's there to be used and it is handy. Anyone else having this issue, or at least have some idea on how to fix it? Thanks |

I can say I haven't ever heard of an issue with the map other than one patch made it super slow. But that was fixed.
Have you filed a petition? If not do so, CCP may know more and that is the best way to get in contact with a GM. |

You might get a better response by posting here.
Not sure it would be petition-worthy.

Thanks for the tip. Have to say, with close to 30 years gaming, Eve has to be the most painful to learn. Hopefully they have a solution... :) |

I agree with the most painful to learn part. It has also been the most rewarding. Welcome to New Eden and immortality.

hrm, never heard of that problem
update video drivers? reduce gfx settings? read windows event logs?
a workaround to avoid using the map would be to go to http://evemaps.dotlan.net and use their "easier to read maps" by region you can use it in your browser ingame and also set waypoints and whatnot as if it were an ingame resource.
covers most of the high points of the game map, although some data may be delayed and shows events for the last 48hrs in each region and system The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

You may NOT like me for this but as EVE is a download something MIGHT have been corrupted during the download or installation process.
You may have to try and download it again.
and wipe out the current install and reload,
Try and use the offline installer http://community.eveonline.com/download/ EVERYBODY KNOWS |

it's a great tool no pilot should be without, but so is the starmap, and you'll find it very useful at times. try and get it fixed, you'll need it. I'd bet it's video or file related. Do you stay up long enough to select "flatten map"? perhaps the 3d map is porking something? or you have a corrupt file.
best if you post in the support forum with your machine and graphics card specs with a detailed account of what happens and when it happens and what you were doing when it happens and what your machine does after.
and like the person above said too ^^ The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |
