i dont have one, but a friend of mine, who is good with computers says that it is unlikely to work without Very powerful graphics cards, so much so tha none of the current Nvida cards could handle it... wich is ironic because they have the 3d option, chances are there would be alot of FPS drops and lag, but then again i never tried.

One of my mates has a pair, and I've had the benefit of trying them on.
It is really good [Dragon Age, for example, looks awesomesauce] but the problem is that NVIDIA have gone for a 3D technology that is completely removed from what the film industry wants to do, and is particularly expensive - LCD shutter glasses are very unlikely to see widespread adoption due to their cost [ú100+] I'd wait to see what 3D technology prevails in the film industry, and thus which tech. is likely to receive the most investment in the home media market. -----

while I don't deny it might look awesome, in terms of practicality, how is it vs ATI's Eyefinity? ---

ATI's eyefinity is support for 3 monitors that you kind of angle, so you its as if your in the ****pit of a plane, i dont think it is "3d" but i immagine it being very fun to play with

in my view, it seems that 3 monitor setups have more applications in real-life situations than 3d goggles.
ok yes, 3d goggles have real-life applications beyond gaming but it seems that it's more niche than a 3-monitor setup for autoCAD or other types of applications that require an enormous desktop. ---

Edited by: cheet sheet on 31/12/2009 11:11:51 Ok so i went into the store and well i was blown away so i bought them and im due to pick them up in about 2 hours..... and as for ATI Eyefinity well all i can say is it looks very cool and i do think that there needs to be a greater effort by games designers to use all the new hardware. However it is hard not to cut the people out with the lower end systems too.

Also IR Tracker 5 what do you guys think of this in fps games

I disagree. Avatar used polarized 3d, which you need 2 projectors and polarized lenses. This will be the way the movie industry will go. I think it will be much easier for the computer industry to go for the shutter affect being as it does not need 2 projectors. However, I did hear something about some guy figuring out how to create polarized images on an LCD monitor. If thats true then its possible. The home media market will thrive on the solution thats easy to convert to and cheap. I don't see people buying 2 projectors when there is a solution that requires one tv. Both will require glasses.

Edited by: Sleepkevert on 31/12/2009 19:46:07 Edited by: Sleepkevert on 31/12/2009 19:45:16 The only problem with shutter glasses that you need a high enough refresh rate or it becomes _really_ tiresome to the eyes. Currently movies are all 24fps, if you were to simply use shutter glasses to create 3d, doubling your fps, it would be 48 fps, still well in the 60fps range all the tv's can support. Though a lot of tv's will support more fps, I don't think they will accept anything higher then 60fps over the current HDMI / scart standards. Which will create problems.
I'v had the chance to see movies with both active shutter glasses and passive polaroid glasses. As well as play games with an passive polaroid monitor. I can say that both are quite tiresome for your eyes, though the passive polaroids less then the active glasses.
Also, there currently are relatively inexpensive 3d solutions with passive polaroid glasses. Particularly the trimon monitors from zalman. My brother has one of those and I can say it works pretty well, although it is _very_ dependand on viewing angle (lucily the monitor comes with a good stand you can rotate in all directions so it hasn't really been a problem). Normal 2d display is also very good although you see see a light grid of squares on the monitor when it's full white etc. The monitor is also fully supported by nvidia's current drivers. And I had it hooked up on my pc working with EVE in 3d as well.
And as bonus, they don't require an expensive solution from nvidia. I think my brother payed 200 euro's for the 22" variant a few months back. _
