hi all seems someones been bzy over xmas logged back in to find myself in totally different region and cleaned out
may or may not be related but i recently installed eve-meep v3 which flagged on my antivirus program as suspicious.
I know this program is widely used reading the forums which is why i was steered to it but as said it may or may not be related.
I also have contracts for large amounts of isk and items around 15.30 and and e-mail offering 3 bil for my account.
cant go into too much detail here for obvious reasons but be carefull out there all.
petition raised. Sparx...

I appear to be in the same boat as you, this morning my account was hacked and I logged in to find myself in my pod with a nearly empty wallet. I have never heard of eve-meep so don't think it was that.

hi
thanks for that your quite right i will kick myself in the arse but i didnt really need to hear it from you right now.
as the person above hasnt got the program which was my latest install maybe i can rule that out.
this means it could have been some sort of brute force password attack which is not easy to defend against..
I have paid for anti-virus and internet security programs, this is the only non microsft or otherwise big name application my computer runs so how that makes me an idiot im not aware..

Since you know what a brute force attack is, you should probably know better than this, but do you use your EVE login/password combination or one/both parts for other site accounts, perhaps even EVE related websites/utilities?

I wonder how many people have registered on isk selling sites using the same login details as on eve. ------

Edited by: zoltare on 26/12/2009 23:33:59 Thanks for the comments about me being an idiot,
You know what I am sick of? People thinking that because they know how to run an antivirus they are better than everyone else. Just to let you know I run Eve on a Mac with an antivirus program, ip address filtering, and have an enterprise class firewall running in front of my network, and in case you hadn't hear mac's don't get viruses.
So in the future before you start calling people stupid maybe you should get some education and quit your job at the geek squad and then you won't have to clean peoples computers anymore.
And no I do not use the same password for any of my online accounts, I randomly generate passwords for anything I do online.

You would have thought that Eve players, who should have the motto 'trust no-one' on their hearts would not be so susceptible to phishing attacks.
It won't be eve-meep, it is more likely to be an ISK seller.
My advice is not to use the same username/password in future when you are buying your ISK.

If the generated passwords are any good (long, numbers, no words you can look up in a dictionary) , bruteforce attacks are very unlikely. You propably have a trojan then. Maybe you should do a hijackthis and stuff like that. Sucks to have your account hacked, hope you havent lost too much.

Yeeeeeah, riiiight. Been away long? Check news often?
Nah, if you really generate passwords and don't use the same user/pass anywhere, you have a nice lil' friend on your "no viruses" mac. QED

I guess what ever you did , DIDN't work, next time weary what sites you goto and buy isk from or use dumb ass apps from.
you should never have to use more than you api, eft and eve mon at the very most.

Well, Zoltare. Since your computer is completely secure and you never do anything that would endanger your password....
Maybe you should use a random password generator that doesn't include "aaaa"
If you knew anything about brute force you'd realize that the implication here is of a database compromise.
IF your security is as you say it is.
<sarcasm> You should definitely contact ccp immediately to tell them of this OBVIOUS database compromise. Clearly since so many EVE players have been experiencing "hacked" accounts on "secure" computers there is a serious issue at hand. </sarcasm>
It boils down to either human error, or else none of you have changed your passwords in years of brute force running against your account. Do the math.

yes im stupid, yes its my fault..
doesnt make it right tho does it ?..
Im only posting here to warn others of my mistakes so go on give me a good kicking if its makes ya feel better :)..

Why use a randomly generated string? Passphrases are much easier to remember. Pick something that is relevant to you - I like to skydive so one of my computer passwords used to be skydivingisfun. Virtually uncrackable by brute force and I don't have to save it anywhere to remember.

Hrm, I seem to be missing some ships in my hangar. Or at least I think I do.
I have been thinking about this for some time, and I guess the sensible thing is to look through my transactions to confirm the number of say Vagabonds, that I have bought off the market the last six months.

hmm my other account ended up hacked as well. no viruses, no keyloggers, nothing funny that could have let my password out.
my account was temp-banned almost immediately after my account was breached. I put in a petition and they said they somehow knew my account was hacked and banned it to prevent any further damage. I provided all the info they asked for and its been 4 days since i heard from the GM team.
and before anyone calls me stupid, i did not click any weird links on the forums and i have a virus scan run daily. _______________ if CCP's logs really never show anything, i have to wonder, do they even have logs? |

been logging in hourly still have my account so im guessing the new password is working up to now..
feeling lucky that i interupted the transfer or i really could have a problem..
seems from the above post im gonna have to wait 3-4 days for a response from the GMs,so just leaving my character in station till i do so they can check whatever it is they check.
