Edited by: Riethe on 27/12/2009 16:11:33 Hey guys!
I just launched http://www.eve-scam.com/
EVE Scam is a website detailing scams, with a twist.
The site itself still has a few features coming:
The majority of the ISK that is stolen will be raffled off / given away through various events.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
Be sure to check back soon!

The site gives everyone key-loggers resulting in their accounts getting hacked and all assets lost, Is that the twist?
edit: Site looks pretty good, easy to read and overall very neat. Bookmarked for future reading, good luck. ------

Norton goes crazy when I go to that site. *Warning* Antivirus 2010 is not a real antivirus. I have petitioned to get this removed.

The site doesn't even have any javascript.
It's a style sheet, a couple of pictures, and a bit of text. There's no way it's setting off anything, unless your virus scanner reads "scam" and goes on lock down.
View it in the IGB, even.

It has potential, but it will sorely need an RSS feed. These days if a blog doesn't have an RSS feed, I don't read it. It's just too much work to open up 75 websites and check for updates that may or may not have been made.

It's actually 100% safe. There's not one bit of javascript on the entire page, or any links to anything other internally to the site... On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

Definitely going to put this together--great point.
As far as anyone afraid to view the site:
I'm a scammer in EVE because it's a valid play style that is allowed. That's part of the appeal.
I'm not malicious. Stealing an account or making your computer explode isn't on the agenda.
Plus, that would likely get me banned here, or worse.
Why would I risk that?
It's just a fun way to detail my thoughts while stealing--and an even funner way to make people jump through hoops for meager sums of ISK.

Noscript and/or running a browser in a sandbox ftw.
For those of you unwilling to visit the site - OP basically conned a player rolling in isk out of 500m ISK. Basically the old boring "if you give me money, I'll invest it and make you back money - CAN'T FAIL!" scam. Better yet, this thread has made this alt useless against most people with real money (googleing partners is always interesting).
Your ability to convince someone to give you only 500m isk is neither new, impressive, or particularly post-worthy. Setting up your own website so you can post names/convos is narcissistic at best - and over such a paltry sum is a bit pathetic.
Come back when you've done something more interesting.

Also, this isn't an alt.
Good work running "noscript" on a site that has no scripts.
And a "sandbox" ? How many times did you have to push your glasses up while making this post?
Overall great post though!!

Can't know it has noscripts until you've been there, eh? And if you think running a browser in a VM environment is highbrow egghead, you really shouldn't be running scams :)
Again, come back when you do something interesting.

Damnit, I should have known better! Because the OP had a good story I decided to check out the site even though I had an odd feeling about it and others in this thread warned us, and for good reason too!
I went to the site and now I lost my virginity... Now what? Is there a fix for this or a patch, can this be petitioned?

I left you a link to read, but I know how long it takes for you to open new web pages, what with all those high tech gadgets protecting your computer from blowing up.
It must be tough for you to get anything done, being so paranoid. Is it uncomfortable sleeping with tinfoil on your head?

Yes you can. Just wget the page and look at it.
It's not that hard.

Which is, in the same context, "visiting the site", my point being you can't tell there aren't scripts there without downloading the page. Given I had the VM open already didn't take more time than a wget or half of the other methods I'm sure we could both name :)
In either case I seriously doubt OP's page is clever enough to DEAR GOD, IT INFECTED ME WITH THE CAREBEARUS INVALIDUS VIRUS!!!! I'm doomed to mine veldspar in empire forever!

You were able to boot up your VM and go to the site in 4 seconds?
Either way you have to download the page. Wget'ing it and opening it in a text-edit takes 5 seconds at max. I doubt you can boot a VM in that time, leave alone open a web-browser and going to the site.

I highlighted the part where I state that opening a browser alone and going to the site is going to take longer on its own.
So I can only say this: ditto.

I apologize - you need to train basic composition to level 2 then :) If you highlighted that fact, why is it your opening question? Shoddy wordcraft, that's why.

Contrary to popular belief - you don't get infected by a virus by downloading it. You get infected by a virus by EXECUTING it. Using wget to download a website, and then opening it with a text editor is a LOT different than visiting it. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |
