Because it's fun :) Because there's ISK into it. Because people like you and me get into their ships and do something else, or are on their toes. Because the forums are flooded with scared people. In other words, to make others do what you want them to. And this is, again, bragging rights. "See how I scared those miners?" OTOH, miners will be all smartass on it too (you can see the posts) "It never happened" "didn't change a thing" "i dare you come gank ME", and so on. It's an event that glues the community.

You sounded pretty judgemental to be honest. But it might be cuz I'm not a native english speaker.
Oh I was judgemental, and not the least bit ironic. I meant the irony of the ganking roleplayers can easily be lost, making it look much more serious than they meant it to be.
Humour thats a strange thing. If I hear someone say "Im going to cut open your butt with a dull knife and **** your mother" that doesn't quite sound like a joke to me. Especially not when said to a stranger. Amongst friends it may work better. Nevertheless that is very close to the style of the dark sinister roleplaying, some people like to engage in. I dont get surprised at all when others react negatively to that. As a matter of fact I see it as a sign of healthiness when that kind of roleplaying gets a negative reaction.
It glues the community in the sense, that those that are in it gets glued quite close together, but it seems to me most other try to avoid it. My normal reactions to threads like this one is to not touch it with a 10-feet pole. I made an exception today, because my carebear tears tell me to not always leave topics like this unchallenged.
(I am by the way very proud of my carebear tears)
A community is of course not one single entity, and consists of many different people. Reading all the media hype about Hulkaggeddon gives me a lot of laughs as well, but there is a very sinister side to it as well, that unfortunately brings out much darker aspects in some people. I wonder when enough is enough - is public threats about sexual abusing nuns enough? (Even though I know those are not meant serious, they can easily be taken serious by outsiders) What scares me the most about Hulkageddon and similar events, is the unchallenged mass movement it often creates. Not in terms of spaceships, but in terms of the armies of seemingly ghoulish followers that chant the holy sacrement of "Nom nom nom, carebear tears". While an army like that does not have any real physical impact, its so damn close to real life examples that it scares the **** out of me. And this is where comparisons to fascist movements are relevant.

Sister Sara was hot dude. Two mules was a steal!
Edit ^^^ and the poster above me needs to step away from the game for a bit I think. I mean, this is a game where people shoot each other using internet spaceships for god sakes and you are actually defending the line that this indicates a ****stic train of thought? That is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard. You need a break from the game to take stock of your life. This be game and we be pew pewing. Your crappy, laughable freudian analyzing is just sad.

What scares you? lol. You are scared? What boggles my mind is that someone can come and play an internet spaceship game and take RL psychological assessments with it? I mean, that is pretty dumb.
But let's play that game. Who is really more mentally balanced? The person who blows up a spaceship in a spaceship game where people blow up other spaceships or the person who freaks out and get's upset about losing said internet spaceship?
lol

I get a lot more upset about words than internet spaceships. That is the point Im trying to make.
The pen is sharper than the pulse laser. When people take their space ship battles outside the game, like in this case, it becomes quite different.

Wow. I... just... wow.
Getting ganked in Eve is the least of his problems. He needs some serious therapy.
