I want to hear your ideas.
This thread is the reason for the spending. There is a tech 1 frigate tournament going on right now and I am invited. The fit I have in mind is of course full meta 5 and below -- not a single meta 6 or greater module. And somehow I stare at the cold glow in EFT and realize that my ship is going to cost me 500 mil. I'm not even kidding.
Somehow I wish I was. There comes a breaking point at which spending money for getting a performance increase reaches diminishing returns. I believe that spending close to obscene amounts of money on a faction ship or even a tech 2 ship from time to time is an okay thing to do, but a tech 1 frigate is just silly.
Please, help me.
Suggest me some fits for a frigate that you would use against another tech 1 frigate in a PVP tournament. I want to see what people have to suggest and I may end up drafting a new concept than the one I have in mind. Remember, meta 5 (tech 2) and below only. Tech 2 rigs and faction ammo are both allowed. Implants are allowed.
Plus, it'll be nice to think outside my own head for once. Seeing what others do in 1v1 situations is a creative and fresh way to get a new spin on combat.
As for my skills, I have Caldari Frigate V, Amarr Frigate V and Gallente Frigate V. I can use small pulse/beam spec, small blaster/rail spec, all tech 2 drones and rocket spec. I do not have missile spec, but I can train it if needed.
Thanks.

I think that breaks the spirit of "tech 1 frigate," but I know what you mean.
So, no.

Edited by: Dark Voynix on 29/12/2009 11:46:24 If no faction ships i guess for the same reason also no facion modules.
Personally i would try something like:
get the fastest minnie ship, nano it , and put 2x arties and run orbiting at 30km ( or more). Pesonally i have never tried that sort of stup, but i think could be fun and something fifferent over the classic rifter/incursus/kestrel setup.
zoom vigil
high: 2x 250mm arty ( long range ammo)
med: mwd, shield extenter ( the best you can fit), micro shield booster
low: "best nano combo you can eft"
rigs: "best nano combo you can eft"
implants: "for nano setups"
you should be fast enough to nullify totally all missiles incoming.
I have no idea if it will work, but can be a nasty surprise for all missile and close range ganking setup.

Probably best idea would be to fit a nano, capstable fit and spam long range weapons like light missiles or possibly artillery at competitors while orbiting the referee at 90km. Lame setup but probably would work.

Well, sit back is really the only thing you can do with that ship. You will not be able to take those inv fields for long and any sniper , after a while, will be able to take you down.

Try to think of a sniper fit that will do enough damage to break though 83dps passive regen, and then at the same time fit a tank that can outlast this, I cant find any since sniper weapons take lot of grid (thus they cant fit good buffer tank other than a DC) and does pitiful damage generally. Even if it does a laughingly low 46dps damage with my skills it will fight other t1 frigate snipers to a standoff or kill them before they kill you.

From what im reading you could shield pimp a rifter or a tristan for this fight too...
I hope you win bro!!!

I use this for corp 1v1 duels (when we get bored)
so far in personal experience I have not had any trouble tanking the damage of any tech1 frigate fit, and the speed allows it to catch most kite fits. (scorch for range helps there)

If you want to go for a comedy fit, you can easily get the merlin's passive shield recharge to over 100 effective, giving you over 10k ehp in the bargain. It won't cost you 500mil, but can definitely be improved with some pimping (t2 versus t1 rigs, 3% implants to replace a meta 4 MSE with a t2, etc -- with all V's, the implants, and 2 t2 purgers you can get the ehp regen to 117/second).
There's not much that could take that out 1v1 in t1 frigs, but, anyone with an MWD or AB and cap-stability could just kite you indefinetly, and the referees might not look with such favor on the ship (100 regen but only 39 dps with no propulsion mod is really, really gamey).

Little known fact, the Imicus has a bonus not seen on any other ship in EVE.
Drone control range.
It is very possible to build an Imicus that will control drones out to 100 K, and I think you'd do better then any other long range weapon at that sort of distance.
Maybe not effective but extremely unique.

Using meta 5 and below, I don't see how you could break 50M even with t2 rigs, never mind 500M. Meta 5 and below means no faction/deadspace and that stuff is the only way I know of to make a true t1 frigate cost so much. In any case, don't spend that much. It's just silly especially for a dinky competition like that. -----------------------------------------------------

Jesus Siigari what is it with you and expensive setups
As others have said the merlin is a pretty solid frig and the one i would proabbly choose. You can either passive tank it for high EHP and passive regen with low dps, or spend a bit extra for a beafy active tank with higher dps.

Funny how many keep suggesting fits without actually having read the restrictions that apply.
And I agree with King Rothgar: how on earth do you get to 500M with a T1, non-faction frig + Meta 0–5 modules?! ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

ultra-expensive meta-mods. I'm thinking MAPCs in particular (edit: nevermind, that only adds up to 15mil or so, still, there are some very expensive ones). Its a frig, fittings are going to be VERY tight.

I've spent about 2.6 bil in pirate faction ammo in the past month.
The fit I had in mind required 300 mil for 3 ammo crystals.
Mahke I like that fit a lot. It certainly fits my style, but I am super-concerned about the lack of MWD or cap booster. :| First guy with a neut kicks me out of the tournament, I worry.

Really???
Imo, that isk can be better used to by new ships...
Out of curriosity, do you buy isk (with plexes)?
Just wondering since I think a lot about cost effectivenss of all my ships (nothign like my 9 Mill cruiser who kills all frigates regardless, hehe)
And also, do you think its worh that much for only a small gain in the ammo? --- "And thus, another of the world's dreamers died, taking his dreams with him. Just as John Lennon wanted world peace, Gerald Bull simply wanted a gun big enough to fire **** into space." |

I'll swoop in before anybody says anything rofl!
There are some threads with me selling plexes but despite what that may look like I assure you I am quite poor irl.
I have been independently wealthy in Eve for a couple of years now due to some good ol' fun with some ex-corpies and now work as an EOH Poker staff banker. So I have a good income.
I think about cost effectiveness when I take my corpmates out to fight, but otherwise I just throw ISK into ships because it's my hobby.
