Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're experiencing problems with a network backbone close to the hosting center, resulting in all of our customers loosing network connection to the EVE cluster. We have notified the provider and it is being investigated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, am i reading this right... an ISP (ie BT or AOL) is not liking eve online, and is booting us off because of thier own internal protocols?

Ahhh, crap. cause, i lose connection in the evening so much, and im on AOL. i was hoping they were pulling a fast one and disconnecting me. (so then id know what the problem was)
Well, maybe if i am dropped from eve because of something eve is doing, maybe that messes up aol when it happens and aol drops me. Cause i only have trouble with AOL when i play EVE.

What they are talking about in that quote is the little hickups we seem to have at least once a day currently where all players get booted. The server stays up, but no one can connect to it for a few minutes. --------------------------------------------------

Read this, and there's a little room for confusion here - so just going to point out a few bits. I work for an ISP - so amkinda interested.
There are the ISP's that we get out internet connectivity off. We get dial/cable/dsl from them. Check with your ISP - but some have some random rules. In the UK dial up quite often kicks you off every two hours. Where ever in the world you are, dialup has a minor issue. Every "flicker" on the line causes the connection speed to train down (slow down) even if you are not kicked off every 2 hours, it might be work doing this manually. Watch out again if your in the UK as they're starting to come up with bandwitdh restrictions as well.
CCP too have to buy a internet connection to an ISP, and in this instance thats what sounded like it went flat on its back. CCP probably have resilient/redundant circuits off to their ISP. So they've basiciacally got two lines. Their ISP obviously messed up nicely to break this service. Or the ISP has done something dumb like mapped the clusters connection through the same physcial device somewhere along the line.
Either way - AOL is the ebil.

Cmdo... specifically im on 512k broadband through the Ebil Aol. I dunno what im gonna ask you really, just give me a shoulder to cry on dude these foookers are soul destroying. What i was wondering is as its getting to the end of the month, and as ive downloaded craap loads and been online loads, is it possible they have like a backdoor bandwidth limit that they dont have to advertise? like if user is REALLY heavy, then disconnect so the mo fo dont take to much.
Seems unlikely though, cause i can usually download ok, and Surf ok, but when i log onto eve i can hear the clock tick tocking.
Awww, frak.

I have heard rumors (nothing solid) that AOL and other crap ISPs do have a 'backdoor' bandwidth limit. If you confront them about it they will point to a clause hidden somewhere in the TOS that allows them to limit their 'unlimited' connectivity, but they will not tell you what the limit is.
Sorry I can't be more specific. I read about this on a forum somewhere (not the EVE forum; this was some time ago). Someone actually confronted AOL (I'm pretty sure it was them), and they gave him this 'phantom bandwidth limit' story. But don't take my word for it; this is a second-hand recounting of a lost forum post.

Meridius, try reading the quote again - the problem isnt CCPs fault, its the ISP they use to connect to the internet. That being the case theres not much CCP can do apart from complain about it to them.
