Can you just train for a ship and start running missions regardless? http://sites.google.com/site/supertestare/_/rsrc/1262908657348/home/577275981_614.png?height=200&width=200 |

Yes you can just train a ship and hit those missions heck i dont think I put in more then 1 day's training time in total into connections and social etc
Also i can stress enough how bad mining is for a n00b, i highly recommend you train up a ship and run missions until you can get acess to decent asteroids. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Don't believe everything you read.
Fit some useful skills in between those Learning skills, you can have more fun that way.

I would definitely consider going for mission running over mining right away. It is much more profitable and arguably less boring.

Edited by: Mendolus on 08/01/2010 17:00:54 Mining in empire peaks at around 15,000,000.00 ISK an hour if you are solo usually no matter what.
L4s in empire peak around 45,000,000.00 ISK an hour if you are solo give or take your style.
Mining takes maybe a month or two get into. L4s you never really finish training, there's always a new ship to try out or complete your arsenal with, esp. where it concerns armor and shield tanking. But to start raking in the ISK in L4s takes months and months as far as not living life very dangerously when doing so, lol.

It should be worth noting, that if you run level 4 missions for just one hour you will not walk away with 45 Million ISK. This is the average of what you will get if you mission for the day. Selling the salvage and loot, bounties, reprocessing the loot and selling stuff from the LP store. And if I am wrong then I have been doing missions wrong for a long time.

Nah you're right, the periodic gains can be rather dismal, one night you may barely squeeze 20-30mil out of an hour or two's worth of work, then the next night you may get a string of lucrative and easy missions that give you +100mil with lucky drops, and etc.

It depends what missions you get offered. It is possible, given the right skills, and the right missions for the right agent, to walk away with 40 mill+ net profit after a single hours missioning (without looting or salvaging, so a genuine hour), in several places within Eve. Those places have their own problems, though.

For mostly brain dead high-sec professions, missioning takes the cake for profitability. (No offense intended, I mission as well. )
To really start making your ISK, trading and production can really make some nice ISKies. These can tend to take some added thought, logistics, and planning, though.

playing the market nets the most isk and you never have to leave your station. for some reason people keep pushing lvl 4s as a great way to make isk. Yes, they do work for making isk but it's pennies compared to what the market gurus pull in. I think people often wrongly put making isk and flying ships with guns to equate to lvl 4s make all the isk.
some other poster put it best, Eve is not a spaceship game with an economy, it's an economics game with spaceships.

Yea, but L4s are seeded income, the market is not. The more people playing the market, the less everyone else playing it makes. And eventually those goods have to come from somewhere, and it ain't gonna be out of thin air.
For the same reason traders do not reveal their honey pots, they do not encourage masses of others to join in the fun and take the edge off my profit margins!

That is the one thing I like about missions: you can spawn them whenever you'd like, which is why I'm also a missioner. Thankfully, I can do two things at the same time in Eve. Well, I'm in the process of doing three things at the same time; I'll see how that works out.

Yes, they come from producers. I listed that profession as a good money-maker, as well. You have to be smart about it and watch your income vs. cost, though, but even T1 production can be very profitable.

Well, I do, but then, I'm a masochist. Honestly, though, there's still lots of room for other traders to enter and make their ISKies. However, it's not for everyone, so I think there will always be room.

You don't have to mine. You don't have to train for a mining ship.
Train for a frigate. Do missions in a combat frigate and mine in mining frigate. Train for a cruiser. Do missions in a combat cruiser and mine in a mining cruiser. Train for a mining barge. Mine in a Retriever, and later a Covetor. (optional) Train for a battleship. Do missions in the battleship (can mine with one too.. on par with retriever, but smaller cargohold).
I did my first level 1 missions in a mining frigate (Bantam - my 1 light scout drone did most of the work) before I realized how much easier it was in a combat frigate (Kestrel).

True true, if I weren't balls deep constantly in administrative stuff as a CEO and alliance diplomat I would be able to dabble in all the fun stuff too.

Missions require no initial investment, and include notably less spreadsheets.

I didn't have a spreadsheet program installed until I started playing EVE. Then I got the free OpenOffice and use it a lot.

When I started playing, I didn't have anyone to help me and I didn't *really* know about the forums (yes they were there.. . ) and the tutorials sucked and were really clunky. This is back in 2005, mind you. I think my single greatest achievement back then, was finishing up Cash Flow for Capsuleers in a Velator then my friend was like "DUDE! Frigates are SO MUCH BETTER!".. and then my trial ended.
anyway, off for more wine

To make 45 mill / hr from missions you need a Maurauder with good modules, relevant skils at 4 or better, the best agents in the game, no travel time, someone else to do the salvaging and selling, and a really good exchange rate for loyalty points.
Rookies can get about half (say 15 to 20 mill per hour) in a T2-fitted T1 battleship.

You can start running missions the moment you start the game. In fact, if you follow the tutorial missions - guess what? You're already making money by running missions!
Note that to get to level 4 missions, you either tag along with someone else who is already running them, and leech reputation gains with the agent so you can start accepting missions yourself, or you grind your way up through level 1-3 missions to gain access to a level 4 mission agent.
To get into mining, you just start mining in your frigate, and gradually learn to fly larger mining ships. Same job, better tools.
