Me and my friend are looking for some work as Tacklers but I don't know who to ask or where to go to find these jobs. We mostly just want a taste of PVP and don't have the skills necessary to fly a full blown solo/group frig yet, so we figure we can slap some Micro Warp Drives on and Scramble/Webifier our way into some usefulness.
Any ideas for how to find this kind of work or where to go to ask? |

You can try RvB(RedvsBlue), im sure they will be more than happy to have a couple of tacklers regardless of the side you pick. You'll get a taste of pvp and you can leave anytime, "kinda" like faction warfare. This, RvB would be a great choice.
It has the benefits that you can PvP with the opposite site when you want (Mutual war - with some rules to make it fun / easy entry) without some of the downsides of FW (massive standing hits).
And the fun part, you can join and leave whenever you like. And rejoin and leave whenever you want over and over.
Also a lot of other corps who do some kind of PvP and are new player friendly might take you on, mainly cause if you fly tackling ships it means one of their other members can ship for another ship (Logi, DPS). Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. Tackling is a nice way to get into bigger fleets and sample the kind of teamwork EVE can offer, just know that you'll die a lot but that's ok as long as each death is cheap and you get the job done.
Best T1 tackler is the Vigil as it's very fast and agile (until CCP "rebalancing" messes that up), there's many ways to fit one all depending on where you are and who you're fighting. Also some ppl choose to put in all speed mods and then complain how much tacklers die, me instead I'd like them tanked as a slightly slower tackler is always more useful than a dead one.
Have a look at this template:
[Vigil, Tackle] Damage Control I Nanofiber Internal Structure I Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I Medium Shield Extender I Warp Disruptor II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon I, EMP S 125mm Gatling AutoCannon I, EMP S [empty high slot]

from day one, you'll get more pvp than you can imagine. it's a very laid-back, fun for all environment.

R vs B is an option, but...
Faction war is an option too.
Massive standings hits only really suck if you are planning on going into Amarr or Caldari space. (I'm assuming you want to fight for the Minmatar republic here). Sure, your main character will be 'shut out' of places like Jita and Amarr, but Rens or Hek are big trade hubs too, so it's not like you would notice any difference.
Also, you only take a standings hit if you do the deadspace complexes and other missions. This is how you 'win' a system, but you don't necessarily 'have' to do them. Some people are in Faction warfare just for the PvP.
Just as your standings with the enemy go down though, your standings with your own faction go way, way up. This gives you access to certain things like jump clones, which let you keep expensive skill implants while you fight, and lets you travel across large areas of space instantly by activating your clone.
When you do faction war missions, you get loyalty points. This gives you access to loyalty point stores, where you can exchange your loyalty points for cool things like implants, special skillbooks, or faction ships like the Republic Fleet firetail.
Faction war missions pay really, really well too.
Faction war corporations will also help you with free ships and modules, and often PvP training. It makes it a lot more easy and a lot more fun to do Faction war missions with corpies/ friends. They usually reimburse your ship loss too.
You could also join a Pirate corporation in low-sec too.
Pirates don't take a standings hit with factions (Minmatar/ Amarr), but they take a security hit with CONCORD, so you would need a high sec alt to do your shopping for you and maybe do some missioning or otherwise financially support your main.
You can also be a Pirate, and be in the Militia (Faction warfare) too. |

Given that he's a newer player and seems to want to be able to play the rest of the game as well as PvP, RvB is probably better for him. As has been pointed out in similar discussions in the past, FW is a more complex thing with better gear rewards, but with RvB you can simply fly out of the active zone when you want to do some quests without getting jumped... not an option with FW. |

The Vigil is only faster than the Slasher because of its 5%/level (Minmatar Frigate skill) bonus. Likely, the rebalancing will remove that bonus, and replace it with a bonus for missiles, since I think that's what CCP said they wanted to do with it (supplement its target painting bonus with a missile bonus). After the rebalancing, it might not be nearly as fast (being the fastest T1 frigate in the game, so far). "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. GǪ" |

I would beg to differ, Rens and Hek are not even close to being as good as Jita or Amarr or maybe even Dodixie. It's like comparing 7-11 or Wawa to Walmart or a Mall. Don't know too muhc about Dodixie though, but when I had just started before I went Nullsec, Amarr and Jita were cheaper and had the selection. |
