So I've decided to take the plunge and finish out my Freighter training and purchase my first Freighter. Now, the hard part. What is the most effective way for a new, solo freighter pilot to find consistent income?
Thanks in advance

By trading!
Seriously though, it's still the exact same principle of buying cheap and selling for profit, only you can do it on a much larger scale and with larger items.
Maybe take a look at ship prices and see if there is profit in hauling to another region and selling on?

I was waiting for the first "Buy Low, Sell High" response (Though, of course, is very valid)
Curious if there is there any venue for finding legitimate freight hauling contracts other than the in-game contract board overrun with scams? I'm sure making individual contracts with manufacturers to haul their goods to/from trade hubs would be a good long term plan, but a venue for jobs to fill in the gaps would be great.

Courier contracts really won't be your best bet. The rewards are usually a few mil, for hundreds of mil in collateral.

Theres usually lots of opportunities for freighters if you look hard. Such as setting up a contract with a industrial (manufacture, BPO) corp to move POS fuels from trade hubs to their POS. You can prolly negotiate a good price for this and it wont take up to much of your time. Theres also freight companies such as Red frog freight (which I have no doubt will be making a post in the thread either while im writing this or a few minutes from now) You can also buy up needed resources in one region and move them to trade hubs or systems connected to 0.0 and low sec (they will have need of the ore and minerals that we think of as overly abundant.)

You should only buy a freighter if you NEED it. Also freighters are not a source of income, they are a tool to help your other income sources be more efficient. Chances are, if you are asking how to make income with your new freighter, you do not need one. -----------------------------------

The above quote is very true.
I started with an Industrial, and learned to make ISK with it. "If only I had some more room I could make more ISK!", I thought.
I then moved to an Orca on an alt and made more ISK. "If only I had some more room I could make more ISK!", I thought.
I then moved to a Charon and make more ISK. "If only I had some more room I could make more ISK!", I thought.
I'm looking at training my Orca alt to be a second Charon pilot

And to think how easy it is to train for a Freighter.... On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

If you just want hauling work join Red Frog Investments (channel RF Freight). They have a ton of work now that insurance fraud is in full swing. I regularly throw 15 freighter sized loads onto their contract system, as do many others.

The RF Freight reference and the Guide are exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
As for not needing one, I'm well aware that I don't, but of course I don't really need anything in the game. I'm just going that path because I'm a boring person and I want boring things to do.

Edited by: Galec on 09/01/2010 12:54:15 Edited by: Galec on 09/01/2010 12:53:37 Though, after reading the guide and the replies, I might go ahead and pick up an Orca first to give me something even more boring to do (drone mining in a capital ship!) and to get an initial feeling for freight hauling in various roles first , just at lower capacities.
Knowing myself though, I'm stubborn and will get a freighter sooner or later regardless... Had the funds sitting dormant on this toon for so long, it's time they get put to use for something.

Buy ships and items that are popularly fit on them (rifter's and 200mm auto II's) and haul them to systems where none of the ship is for sale, and put it all up for sale with mods something like %50 markup.
Quafe used to be profitable.....

I'm about to buy my first freighter next week only because I run into a road block hauling minerals. While starting to dabble in manufactoring, my second run of ships took me over 30 trips in an industrial. I looked at the orca, which would be a better fit for now, but it was going to take me additional 30 to 45 days to train for it over the freighter with my current skills.
The freighter is just overkill to me, but there is little choice of something in the middle. The orca would work great if you could "de-select" some of the modules and just use it as a miny freighter. But the nice thing of going for freighter is that now the Transports are only a week away after the freighter! Which is quickly becoming required equipment to make the run from Amarr to Jita and back!

You will love the blockade runner. I don't bother with a deep space transport.
With the BR, configure for shortest route and 1 security penalty, as going through lowsec is pretty safe in a BR. Might want to put Rancer on your avoid list though and enable the list.
