The UI in Perpetuum Online, a game in development by a small hungarian firm, is identical to EVE's UI, just slightly modified windows, but essentially everyone here will see all the immediate resemblences. Its shocking how blantant they copy it. Look on the right the overview, exactly like EVE, and look at the tactical weapon configuration on the bottom left... just like EVE... chat channels... just like EVE.
Are you aware of this CCP?

They're waiting for that game to actually make money before suing, so there's some proper value involved to sue over. --------

sorry Chribba, im not on the forums daily like you, but thanks for pointing out that this was previously know, "my bad" (see i stole this from Tuxford).
So what happened with it.. did ccp sell the technology? a little more info? The game looks fun though, cant wait for it to come out.

My apologies, wasn't meant as a "haha you didn't read the forums". P-O was discovered a long while ago and I am sure CCP is on top of it, and as previous poster said, I also think they are laying a bit low and will go forward when it involves money if so.
But as you said, yeah clearly a rip-off no doubt, and I still haven't gotten my invite lol
But nice to see some actual gameplay of it - looks... boring - and on that note, I want to try it.

I just wish more MMORPG's would make their chat system more like Eve's. I hate the chat system in games like WoW, Fallen Earth and many, many more. ------

Seriously - CCP devs are creating this game cause they are bored of EVE.
CCP dev: Dam EVE is boring. Wish we would do something new. CCP dev2: How about we take everything cool from EVE, but like with robots and more lasors! CCP dev team: OMG this is genius! How didn't we think of it earlier.
Hmm this actually sounds rather nice. Will have to add to watch list.

As far as I know, unless it's a direct code copy CCP cannot really expect to win in a court of law. You can't copyright or trademark a style except in very rare cases. Nor can you expect to win if what you're claiming damages for brought you no damages, has no chance of bringing you damages, etc. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

I know I'm in the minority, but I love the Eve UI. If I was making a similar game, I'd copy it.

Its not just the ui , the draining effects .... looks familiar and the turrets it looks like someone came up with an idea for a game and responded to the design team with the same thing every time "well in eve-online they......" isn't game design about innovation and making good things better not just replicating them.

edit: lol after reading more I cna say its a copy. Checked out combat and the same: optimal, fall off, missile explosion etc. Even has same graphs Hmm this actually sounds rather nice. Will have to add to watch list.
Actually after ccp sue them and own the company, they can just merge game with EVE since its a complete duplicate in almost everyway, but then again, they are giving DUST514... sadly a console game for all us computer game players.. that was smart... would have prefered it be integrated directly to EVE rather than having me log off EVE to jump on my xbox360, but i digress. GAme looks interesting but at least i know why.. it copied my favorite game mechanics... and i like EVE UI also.
oh and if what i right doesnt make sense i apologize i m haf baked right now.

Dust isn't being created for EVE players. They've specifically said that it's designed to appeal to a new audience--specifically, console FPS players.

Edited by: Asestorian on 09/01/2010 20:15:22 Yes, they have obviously just recreated EVE's UI, but they have modified it a bit. I wouldn't have thought this counted as illegal. I mean, think about it. Most MMOs have UIs that are extremely similar, and yet no one cares that any new MMO has a UI that looks just like any other MMO. This one is only of note because previous to this EVE's UI was completely unique. As long as they aren't directly ripping assets from the EVE client, they aren't really doing anything wrong, in my opinion.
Of course, it is still weird to see EVE's UI style in another game.
Edit: Also, just to be clear, the game looks like it is really, really, really bad.

Because of the screenshots? They look ok to me.
As for the UI, that's obviously "inspired by EVE", but that's about it. There's nothing illegal about it. Just compare Warhammer Online's UI with World of Warcraft's. I like how they improved quite a few things visually. It looks a lot more polished than the EVE UI even thought the functionality seems to be extremely similar. -
