Hi, i am training for a solo rook as i have heard that it is the best caldari solo ship. How good is it in solo, would it be able to kill a BC in low sec or is that too much for it. Im just looking for tips and suggestions about the rook and how to fly it in general.

but isnt rook>drake. and if i'm in low sec or a war, i will (hopefully ) get the target before it can run.

Agreed.
No-one is going to volentarily fight a rook solo. Sure you might catch some newbies, but in that case plenty of other things will work just as well. Personally, I'd be thinking that anything that you catch is likely to be bait, and a rook is really going to have problems engaging multiple BCs or bigger.

The issue you are going to have with a rook, is doing enough damage against a well fit ship. I have tII heavy launchers on mine (as I haven't trained up heavy assaults yet) and can't break a really good fit BC or above.
On the plus side, I can jam three targets easily at the same time, and use tp drones to increase damage. Plus you have a mid slot or two (depending on how you like it) to throw in a scram/stasis if you like (although I am usually in gangs, shooting from 50k so my mids are usually all ecm).
As one poster already stated, hard to get fights in the rook as no one wants to go up against it 1v1 (or even 1v2 from my experience). Not from a damage it can do potential, but simply from getting jammed by it.
Great toy to have though.

Edited by: c0olGuY77 on 12/01/2010 18:15:09 ive been experimenting in EFT with the rook and the lack of tank is discouraging. is it really that good of a jammer to only need one LSE II or a LSE II and an invul II to survive? if i miss a jam with anything bigger then a cruiser it seems like i might go pop |

Yes, this is true. And in between jams he will get drones on you. You can put your drones on his drones, but it takes warriors too long to kill hammerheads.
It looks great on paper, but completely falls down in practice. I've tried it. You are so slow that you are completely dependant on the other guy being willing to engage, and most people are not, because everyone absolutely hates being jammed.
It's a reasonably good small gang ship though. Works best if you show up just after the fight starts, so as not to scare em off. Similar to the curse in that respect.
Stay at ECM optimal and lob jams and missles into the fight. Fit 4 racials and some tank, no tackle. |

Edited by: c0olGuY77 on 12/01/2010 18:33:59 The fit i am hoping to use is
5XHAM II
4X multi spec II 1X LSE 1x MWD 1X scram II
2X BCU II 1X RCU (best name)
2X ECM jam strength rigs I
edited reason: forgot rigs
5X hobs II
hopefully i will keep in range with the MWD as i jam the enemy, but if i just keep point on enemy, and primary drones, surely that tiny 5k buffer will last 20-30 seconds in which i have to kill of the drones? i wasn't planning to engage full on drone boats but most ships i plan on engaging have enough drone bay to fit at least 5x med drones. It does seem though that this ship is the **** in small fleet warfare though, and i plan on exploiting that

Imo you're better off with 4 racials than 4 multis. I'm sure most people will agree.

Not on a solo (1v1) boat, multis are much better on those.
On a gang boat where you're likely to engage multiple targets, then you take racials so you can match them to the target. On a soloboat you're gonna want multi's where all of your jammers are equal strength.
On a rook though, even multis will likely near-perma most cruisers or below.
(Try looking into DG Multi's to Boot, Well worth it)

Do you think i would be able to keep a target perma jammed with one or 2 multi's, giving me the ability to take on maybe even 2-3 people solo? is the jamming strength that high?
