Hey all, I have a quick question regarding the buy request system. I wanted to get a Coveter mining barge, but didn't quite have enough cash so I took out a buy order for $15 million ISK hoping someone might sell it low at some point. I put the order in for 3 days. After 3 days the buy order evaporated, as well it should, but I was never reimbursed for the 15 million ISK that was fronted when I took out the order... Is this a bug or a massive risk associated with taking out buy orders that may not get taken up?
It was basically all the money I had...I was hoping to make it back with a more efficient mining ship - am I a victim of my own ignorance or is something not working properly?
Also, I should mention that I checked for the ship (It could have been purchased successfully, after all) but don't see it anywhere. I did so by going to assets and searching for 'coveter' and nothing came up.
Anyway, thanks in advance for anyone with any idea what might be going on.

This is a bug. The money should have returned to your wallet after the order expired. If the ship is definitely not in your assets then petition it. Also sometimes the assets and wallet take some time to load the correct data.

The order will give you the isk back from escrow once it expires properly, which i think happens at downtime after the order expires _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

before running to file a petition that will go in with the other 100k petitions check to see if it's still up and maybe cancel the buy order

Thanks a lot, I'll wait a day then maybe shoot off a petition. I doubt the good folks at Eve really care about my little mishap but we'll see.
Thanks again, it's nice to cut out some of the guesswork.

You cant buy into different regions and your assets would show it.
This might seem silly but if you really did search for Coveter in your assets it wouldn't come up since it's spelled Covetor.

1st you can go to wallet then click the transactions tab.
Should say who sold the coveter to you if the buy order was filled.
Secondly, in assets, click on the search tab and search for coveter. If you have one it will show up regardless of region.

The buy order expired at 1 o'clock this morning...I figured waiting 12 hours would have been enough but it just went through right now, I got my money back.
Thanks guys, sorry for the fuss. *sigh*
*Edit*: Actually...someone named Tyekarus sent me the 15 million. That isn't a market NPC or anything, right? Wow. Thanks...

For those of us that have been playing a few years, 15 mil is not a lot of money. I'd gladly pay 15 mil over market price not to have to go 30 jumps to Jita to get a part I needed. But there are a few people who take compassion on newbies who don't have a lot of cash, and for whom 15m is a lot of money.
I am not one of them, but I would guess Tyekarus is a good Samaritan. If I take off my grief hat, and put on my good guy hat, I would note that you should either pay it back with interest when you can, or else pay it forward to some newbie down the road.
If you tell anyone I said that, I will end you. --

lol. You big softy. Paying it forward in EvE works amazingly well, so much so in fact that I have started following the philosophy in real life. We should all try it, even if it's only once. Kudos to the guy who stumped up the 15 mil to help out a noob.

Hey worked with me, guy footed my bill after I got ganked at a gate in the middle of 3 other groups. Actually gave me enough to buy a decent maller setup, think it was 40-55mil or so, still haven't managed to pay him back. He says it's fine so I guess I can pass on that much in time. I had similar experience, after the daily downtime the money was wired back to my wallet.

I remember during the summer some guy posted in GD about trading over all his possessions between his accounts when his client crashed and the trade didn't go through. He was pretty despondent for a day or so, thinking he'd lost billions worth of gear. You can imagine how relieved and happy he was the next day when the stuff appeared in his hangar after the following downtime.

I've had a similar problem, put up a buy order for a Ferox at 17m (why have they jumped up to 23 million all of a sudden? I'm losing 6.2 mil on a hull after insurance, and that's not counting fittings), and the buy order has expired, but the isk hasn't been refunded. I'll check again tonight after DT and see if it's been refunded or not.
