What if the drone capacity were cut down to 5 mediums instead of 4 heavys, and it gained an extra lowslot and 30 cpu? The ship would pretty much be the same, just a bit more flexible in the fitting, and a tad less drone dependant. I could even live with it if they needed to cut 100 powergrid to balance it.
Just a thought, but I believe I would like the ship better then.

You cant just give a ship 1 more slot without giving the other tier 3 BS from other races +1 too.

I didn't "just give it 1 more slot". I reduced both bandwidth and dronebay too. Would you feel it were more justified if I suggested it to handle 5 lights instead of 5 mediums?

Nah, slots are always bound to their class, all ships of the same class (HICs, Interceptors, usw...) all have the same amount of slots for each race.
Rokh, Hyperion, Maelstrom and Abaddon all have 19 slots.
Thats something like the basis of these ships and sacrificing some CPU or whatever to get another slot is unfair to the others if they dont get their slot either.

Active armor reps require 2 reps to make it useful (unlike shield which can fit overzised booster) while at the same time needing damagemods to actually be useful with their turrets.
The real problem is that if you compare a Hype to a Mega it has more armor, structure, shield, cap, speed, sensor strength and an extra midslot at the expense of a low slot and targeting range (not counting tracking as that's a bonus). Somehow CCP thinks that all those extras make up for the loss of a low slot... NOT in a ship that's crying to have 2 LAR, decent resists and would also like to do some damage please.
However, GIVING the Hype this extra low slot would make it possibly overpowered, albeit in it's own narrow niche. If you compare it to a Maelstrom the choice is obvious and not just because projectiles got a rework a short while ago.

Actually they don't.
Yea, most of the ships that dont are relicts from past were CCP had no clue about how to balance their game.
Not saying they have now, but atleast they somewhat trying to make something about it^^

How to fix the Hyperion in three easy steps:
1) Change the useless rep bonus to a 5%/level ROF bonus. You don't need tank if your target is dead.
2) Change the slot layout to 6 mids, 5 lows. Shield buffer tank > armor tank.
3) Add enough grid/CPU to allow 8x neutron IIs, MWD, 3x magstabs, 2x tracking enhancer, and tackle/shield buffer. -----------

Would be very good but would NOT be gallente storiline wise. Gallenteans are NOT shield focused. And the resulting damage also would be TOO massive. Tempest liek bonus with 2 extra turrets AND more drone bay?
What hyperion needs is nto a change on it, its ccp review active tanking modules and mechanics to make them valuable again..

Sucks for the roleplayers. Fortunately, nobody cares about them, so ships should be balanced around what is effective, not what matches the "story". Gallente should not be stuck with an armor tank bonus when armor tanking sucks and cripples any ship that depends on it.

Never going to happen. If active tanking is boosted enough to be relevant outside of 1v1s, then it will be impossible to ever kill a ship in a 1v1 fight. Congratulations, you just killed solo PvP, the scenario where blaster ships have their biggest advantages. -----------

My shield/gank-hyperion already got 122k EHP + 1355 DPS (1502 with overload).
That's 12k more EHP + 200 more dps than my megathron produces. It really doesn't need to be made an obvious shield tank ship... when it's gallente.

dispite its 8 guns and a dmg bonus i dont think the hyper is ment to be a 'big damage dealer', its stats, slots and bonuses piont to a decent local tank and no dmg mods used due to 'not needing any to compete with other races BS dps average'.
if oyu put damage mods on you can edge a mega, but then your local tank is sucky and a plated attempt is even worse and the mega is better in 99% of cases.
IF ccp intended the hyper ot be a active tanked, gank boat it would have less mids and more lows from the start.
if you want high damage, use a mega with its tracking bonus and use 3 damage mods with a lioghter passive armor tank, dont insist the hyper must be changed because it cant do things, its honestly not ment to.
Id like to fit a semi active semi passive gun boat on the domi, but asking for 10k pg isnt going to happen, because its not ment to!!!

so? you'll need to sit at like 2km from the target, and the target must sit perfectly still to do OMFG damage. blaster tracking isn't really that great, you know? ---

Confirming the shield tanked hyperion is pretty awesome. Nanod its only slightly slower than a tempest. It has better tracking, higher DPS, and alot of shield EHP.
Before the projectile buff I was pretty convinced that the hyperion completely obsoleted the tempest. I even considered bailing on Minmatar and training t2 large blasters and gallente battleship 5.
Then the projectile boost got in the pipeline and I decided to throw that all overboard. The tempest is pretty sweet now. Still I have fond memories of the hyperion. All those capitol kills I got top or near top damage on, and those carriers I bumped off station...

Kinda sad to see that before the nano nerf Megas were the be all own all blaster ships and now they are mehh. Now with projectiles owning hybrids on almost every front rail/blaster platforms arent all that attractive any more.

Currently rep bonus' only advantage is that it gives 37.5% to tank as opposed to 33% from resistance bonus. While resist bonus also works with buffer tanking and when being RRd.
Make adjustments in other areas to balance this out as needed.
