Hopefully, this is the right thread, since EFT itself is posted here.
Does anyone know if it's possible to create your own custom ships for EFT? I mean from the ground up, specifying how many slots the ship has, resists, skill requirements, etc.

no you cant make up ships in eve FITTING tool. what would be the point? im pretty sure eft's main purpose is to test fit a ship and see its stats before you buy it or before you can fly it. so you can plan things out.

I knew some moron was going to say this exact thing. I KNOW what EFT is for. The point would be "because I feel like it". I was curious, and wanted to know if such a thing was possible.

I'd recommend moving this to the EVE Technology Lab section of the forums, since what you're asking is probably a detailed, highly technical question. I don't see any mechanism within EFT itself for creating a custom ship, which leads me to believe you'd have to modify the program's code. I'm no techie, I have no idea where you would even begin looking.

Maybe change the EFT databases, or use Pyfa or something and modefy it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

isn't EFT open source? if so it is absolutely possible.
it was done before one major patch about a year or two ago...

This is something pyfa's override system can do, although it can't create new items you can modify an existing ship (I suggest a shuttle) and add/remove/change anything you want on it. Docs for the override are at: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/pyfa/wiki/Docs/Override

Ships data seems to be stored in eft/data/ships.dat, whose contents looks like an object stream to me. Meaning it'll be near to impossible to modify or append to it manually, that is without an interface designed for that purpose.

Check the technology forum, I remember there was a program allowing you to change attributes of the selected ships and create custom ones. Some people were using it to emulate ships like domi navy post-patch.

Why you would want to put time into designing, building, and fitting a ship that is never going to be in eve is beyond me. What ever floats your boat.
