i have never had my ore thieved, mostly because i have never mined but i know a few people who have not only already figured a way around this but have found a way to use it to kill the miners if they so desire...
so, still a sad day for miners, and a happy day for ore thiefs and pirates that can travel into empire and wana confuse some carebears I am back |

Why donÆt we encourage ore theft? It would add a bit more risk to dumping into an un-secure can. And would help get rid of the macro miners.
You would have to introduce a way to let a miner protect his ores, Make a bump do damage or let the mining lasers mine an ore thiefÆs ship.

We are getting closer and closer to the point where nobody is going to leave highsec and turning this into a mining sim.
Whats next? People complaining that high end ore is only in low sec and then CCP moves it to 1.0?

let me ask everyone who is afriad of anything in this game pushing them to 1.0 space...
if the game isnt a challenge then whats the point of playing.. the only reason i still play eve is because theres still challenges to it if it wasnt for them id get bored and leave ive got over 50 games in my pc collection alone and ive beaten most of them within the first 24 hours of gettin it including halo on legendary.... those games are rather boring to me because i beat them so easily... the point is if there is no risk and no challenge wtf is the point? id rather risk losing everything in 0.0 space then sit safe in 1.0 mining away at veld because i dont want my ship destroyed... the way i see it the harder it is to do things the better... as frustrated as ive been playin this at times i still dotn quit because it makes me want to achieve what i have lost at and i hate to lose =) no point in winning if there is nothing to risk just as there is no reason to fight unless there is a risk ;) anyway thats my 2isk ----------------- *Decloaks and starts blasting your sig* Applesauce Biotch

Hehe, I hope there is a way to use the flagging to attack the miners. I'd really like to blow up a few macro miners I've seen flying around in 0.9 and 1.0 systems. Taking their ore or blowing up their cans only hurts them for a few mil isk. Taking out 8 apocs would hurt them for 240 mil isk.

Now I'm not entirely sure on this, but as I heard it, when you take from a can that is not yours, it doesn't mean that Concord comes and kills you. But rather it means that the person you stole from gets to take a shot at you without worry about gettin ganked by concord themselves for a certain amount of time. The same if you stole a ship belonging to them. I don't know how correct that info is, but thats what I heard. If its true, I kinda like it better that way. A jett can isn't and shouldn't be secure to the point where if someone other than you or your corp/gang member takes from it, they got shot by concord. The Jett can was made for unwanted junk afterall. Plus, for those of us who have had ore taken from us, we can finally take revenge on those who stole it. Rather than having the theif laugh at us right in front of our faces and we can't do nothing but take it. I would find more gratification in killing or at least killin the ship of the guy who stole ore from me rather than having the Cops do it for me. Having the cops do it is just so Impersonal.

I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, jet cans were supposed to be a way of disposing rubbish. Now, I also understand, that it has changed. Since, human ingenuity will always find a way of making something profitable/better/faster/smarter etc. This is Capitalism at its best. So, why not code the game - and I am not a programmer - so you only get flagged if you take Ore, UNREFINED ore out of the can? Is it possible that you are at war in with a Corp X and you blow up their ship and then take the goodies out of the jet can. Now, Corp Y comes along and can fire on you now - because you took goodies out of legitimately destroyed war-target. Or for example, what if I set a trap for some silly guy in a Tristan by Jetting 1 Unit of Civilian Shield Booster. While he comes buy picks it up and I blast him to dust? It doesnÆt seem very fair. Again, I am not sure about EXODUS having this feature at this time. However, I shall make an Alt and will take ore from my Jet can and see what will happen.
Personally I think Ryctor is a rather smart boy/girl/keyboard operator - whatever - and is instigating this topic in order to profit in first few days of Exodus. Which, who can blame him; I would like to profit as well. Unless DEV Comments on this particular issue I would seriously doubt that Criminal Flagging - as far as Ore thievery is concerned - is rolled out in Exodus. So, till then, Tenaj and Ryctor, more power to you. You are performing a civil service by keeping many lazy a miner on his/her toes when they see you in the system.
Cheers.

Edited by: MinorFreak on 24/11/2004 07:11:30 look, it's simple: if CCP really intended the jetcan to be used for junk and not for strip mining they'd have lowered the cargo capacity.
hmmmmmmmm...that doesn't sound right. i wonder, i'll bet the ONLY reason the cargo cap is so ridiculous on a jetcan is CCP coded it to match the highest cargo cap on the Iteron V w/ modules (Has anyone tried to get an entire content of such a ship to jettison?)personally, i'll go with option 3: CCP couldn't be arsed to deal with coding requirements and made the size ridiculous cause they didn't think too hard on strip-mining consequences....CCP probably aren't too interested in dealing with the core issue because macro users PAY, regardless of whether they get banned. Personally, i find it incredibly silly how a giant cargo container has a fraction of the jetcan's capacity yet is literally GIANT sized.
let me repeat: there's no good reason for CCP to have made the jetcan so massive in capacity, other than pure outright laziness.
*shrug* if they were so worried about the issue they would have coded not only jetcan jettison wait times (2 1/2 minutes between) but also max jettison limits.i'm sure this has been nerfed/tweaked/*****ed about so many times i'm sure my head would spin following the chronology having a max jettison limit that matches the n00b ships max cargo capacity (with modules) would probably be the best idea in curtailing this silly jetcanmining hobby.

Edited by: Gorin Talonisis on 24/11/2004 10:24:59 I believe for the New rules, opening an ejected can from a destroyed ship incurs another penalty to security rating. So yes, you are flagged, and recieve another hit. That doesn't matter too much in 0.0, however.
Last I checked, the jetcan rules are not in. Don't quote me that they won't be pushed through at the last minute however. In the current mechanics of Ice mining in particular, the Jetcan is going to be pretty important. Up side to all you Pirate types. Player Owned Structures are going to require a LOT of mining. Ice fields are in only select few places, so that narrows the location of possible targets while increasing the number of targets. You can also attack haulers moving Ice Products and other goods to and from stations. Many of the finished items from Player Owned Stations will be bulkier, but worth a lot more then minerals. The downside of course is that Ice fields will also group resistance to any such operations. Further, I doubt many of the pirate companies will be actually attacking Player Owned Structures with defenses, unless they have a sizable number of people.
combat Large Artillery Battery belonging to The X-Trading Company heavily hits you, inflicting 7613.3 damage.

Not quite that simple Sjoor, i was more after what Gorin could say. It does happen from time to time that you come across somebodys can in a belt if he died for example, or say a can didnt get looted at all/completly after killing in empire. I wouldnt want Concord to spank me ;)

And before we know it, we will have drones come out of the dronebay automaticly while actually being afk and guns firing without any command ... when the those macro miners are attacked. It would not suprise me anymore lmao. But there goes the danger of ore theft .. pity though ;-;

So lets see here... Ore Can thieves are complaining because now, when they steal ore from a can, they take a security hit (Why is this a surprise? you are a thief after all), and the owner has the opportunity to take a shot at them. This is the way it should be, its almost equivalent to engaging the miner, you are making an aggressive action towards him. It doesn't mean you can't steal ore.. but it does mean you can't steal ore in complete safety in high sec systems.
So who exactly are the carebears here?
Grow some balls or find a new source of income, I'm quite sure there will still be many an ore thief out there doing the same stuff they always do, and maybe losing a ship every once in a while. Chances are the person mining is gonna have a miner setup, and will have minimal defenses anyway, so you have a decent chance at swiping their ore in your indy if you know what youre doing.
Sounds like stealing ore just became an actual challenge. Heaven forbid.

Ok. LetÆs see if I have my head wrapped around this ôOre Stealingö.If I go and take ore out of a players can, with the new patch he/she can shoot me. Now the main question I have is can I shoot back without getting ganked by police? If not then that put a nice balance to the whole ore stealing thing.
Miner knows risk. Ore liberator knows risk.

1. I really like the idea of killing the lazy bastards. 2. I personally have no problem with ore theif being able to fire on me if I fire on them for taking ore. 3. However, wouldnt that mean that high-sec is no longer non-pvp if an ore theif can bait a miner into battle without any recourse from CONCORD? How will that work?

Speaking as a miner, I know the risks when jetcan mining... but there should be the right to protect the can too... otherwise there's no risk for the thieves.
There is one way you can overcome any jetcan miner though - simply wait for them to jump out to change ships and quickly get in there and grab some ore - he'll have to change ships and you can probably grab two loads if you're set up with quickjumps.
Don't get me wrong guys, but with the new mining barges, there's no longer an excuse for jetcan mining since it's quicker to take a load of ore back than it is to go back and change ships and the cargo space is reasonable... the only time someone should be jetcan mining is when they're doing so with a friend, in which case you'll probably want to find an easier prey anyhow.
A friend with a thorax helped me when I started - I hauled and he cut the ore for me - it was a quick way to cut started, but we suffered an ore thief... the only defense was to keep the can empty. Had we been able to shoot the thief's Iteron, we could have at least driven him off the second time - he was able to return before I could empty the can, resulting in him getting some 30k of plag. Had we been able to shoot, we could have driven him off that second time, if not the first.
Of course, I've learned a bit since then. Incidently, anyone care to advise on PVP?

With that said, I hope those morons make a macro that tells them to target and shoot someone if they steal the ore, because then I can just sit and wait for that attack and whoop thier ars once the agression was initiated towards me. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Hi 'badguys and girls',
Iam one of these socalled free-can-miners, and to my surprise i noticed yesterday that my miner-m8 couldnt fill nor take from my free can. He could only look into it, but no ore transfers were allowed unless we were in a gang. So if this is not a bug it means the days of the ore-thieves are totally over. U can look, but u cant touch...
P.S. I dont agree with it, but Exodus makes piracy a pathetic and useless profession.
Cheers!

Oh yeah. My bad. I never stopped to consider the hardship all of you faced when you had to get into your slow Industrial ships. I never really took into account the sweat you break when you search belt after belt to find some lone miner with a few jettisoned cans near him/her. It never occured to me how much danger you faced in SECURE, Concorde-patrolled space when you slowly crawled to the victim's cans and removed the ore from his can, placing it in the cargo hold of your ship.
Frankly, I'm surprised you can bring yourselves to do more than one load a day. That's some seriously hard labor there.
