Edited by: DaDutchDude on 22/01/2010 16:33:16 A couple of tips.
Starter PVP ship Don't start to PVP in a Battlecruiser. Battlecruisers are AWESOME ships, but they do take quite a lot of skill points and pilot skill to be solo'ed properly. And even then, you'll loose one quite often, because it is hard to disengage once you've gotten in a particular situation that turns bad.
Instead, start with T1 frigates with good T2 fits before you move on to anything else. this means you'll have decent gunnery skills, good fitting skills and other support ships, which already make your frigate shine, but will do so exponentially when you start flying bigger stuff. Frigates give you a good level of survivability because of their speed and size, so you can escape from many unfavorable situations when flown correctly. When you get good, you'll be able to take out interceptors, some assault frigates, industrials, mining ships, a lot of cruisers and (with lots of luck and skill) even some T2 cruisers and battlecruisers. A corp mate with less then 10m SP does these things in his lowly Rifter, so it can be done. Expect to loose many ships though but they'll be easy to replace.
PVP skill = (knowledge + ability) x experience To become a good PVPer, you'll need to know a lot of things about: - ships: how can they can hurt you, how can you hur them - game mechanics: how does agression work? how does the on-board scanner work? why iss my signature radius relevant? - tactics: how do you navigate safely through low-sec and 0.0? how do you split up people trying to grab you? how do you fish interceptors? - etc.
You can learn these things on your own, but that takes lots of time and effort. You could also sign up for classes from Agony Unleashed, which will give you a lot of knowledge in a short period of time, and you don't even have to leave your corp. You could also find a corp that really helps you get started.
After the knowledge, you need experience. Fly a lot, loose a lot, analyze your mistakes and try again. The more hours you fly a ship type, the better you get at it and if you stick with it long enough, you'll be able to punish people underestimating you quite severely. Red vs Blue is a good way to get started, but you can also choose to go low sec or (my preference) 0.0. Try to find people to fly with and who can support you, because even as a solo PVP pilot, it is still good to have people help you out.
Accept EVE PVP as is A lot of people complain about tactics, mechanics and player behavior. Don't get sucked into that trap. When people outnumber you, don't ***** about them blobbing. When people smack talk you, ignore them. When people use nano HACs and faction frigs and are able to pretty much always run away when they want, just avoid them instead of calling them nano-***s.
One of the major strengths of this game and especially its PVP is that there is so much freedom to do what you want. This means you can manipulate situations just as much as any other pilot. When you're strong, appear weak. When you're weak, appear strong, and more stuff like that. When you accept this game, its mechanics and human nature, and know how to turn those things into an advantage to you, that is when you become a dangerous warrior in a way that no amount of skill points can.
Hope that helps you. Good luck! _____________________________________
