Whats a good graphics card for eve? I hear so many mixed perspectives, I don't really think I need an awesome graphics card, I just want one that will work with my current system and play eve with decent fps.....this low setting is not gonna work....and even then since the recent patches missions with a lot of objects will cause it to slow down considerably.
Currently I have a GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Got an AMD Phenom 9150e Quad Core Processor, 1.8ghz
It's an HP computer, model a6700f.
And that's all I know.
At a maximum I'd be willing to spend $200-250 for the card, in that budget could I get something that will run Eve on high?
Thanks! I hope this is in the right place...

This
or
This if you want something with a bit more power and what I would get.
Also make sure you power supply can handle it and has the proper pins.

anything in the $70-100 range would run eve on high. (Maybe not fleet fights, but in normal day to day 20vs20 fights it would be fine.) Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

Yeah, this. You're going to need a new power supply, though, as a quick internets perusal suggests your PC only has 300W included and you'll want 500ish. Don't skimp and buy a cheapo one, either; something $50-80 will cover that _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

Eh new power supply, so I can just buy it and plug the new one in?
Sorry, only thing I've ever done is install new ram sticks on a pc as far as hardware goes. |

There's some screwing and unscrewing involved, and you'll have to disconnect the connectors and reconnect the new ones. There's some proper internet guides available via google with pictures and everything; follow those, and you should be fine.
The other concern with power supplies is that you need to buy one of the same size (form factor) as the current one. This may involve you measuring your current power supply to make sure it's of the proper form factor as the new one you're ordering. A standard ATX supply is 6"x3.5"x5.5"; you should get out a ruler and check to be sure before you buy a new one |

The 'spaghetti junction' of wires coming out of a psu may make replacing one look a bit daunting, but it's actually pretty straight forward and simple, with probably only half a dozen or so actual connectors to plug in.
If you whisper 'psu' anywhere near a computer, the internet shouts back at you 'get a good one from a respected company, or your computer is Doomed'.
Check that it supplies enough 12v amps for your new card.
Maybe someone can explain something to me about dual rail psu's while I'm here. I've read in a few articles that if your GPU requires up to say 30amps, you need a psu that supplies at least 30 amps on one 12v rail. But wouldn't the card be able to draw up to 75watts (or maybe more) from the motherboard through the pci slot? I ask because my GPU uses up to 27amps, but my psu is dual rail, with 18a per 12v rail, and it runs fine (as long as I don't try and overclock beyond the very smallest amounts)?

I have my GTX 280 downclocked to 400/800/900 and I still get an average of 300 fps within stations with everything set to high and 4xAA @ 1440x900.

Buying nVidia now doesn't make much sense. In two months their new gfx card range will be released, making their currently deployed range drop off a cliff in terms of price.
AMD for that money, or wait until nVidia drops in price two months from now.
In either case, you should certainly be able to run EVE on high for $200
