0.0 combat is the most important thing in the game. Apart from bringing in new players and keeping old ones from leaving, the distruction of ships through combat in this theatre drives the production of most of empire.
However ...
The recent debacle with lag is causing regular shutdowns of eve due to large scale battles. I think its time we really realise ..
when does a 2000 man battle take precident over the playing experience of 50000 players?
The solution I dont know, but there has to be a line. Where that line is and if we are already over it is something for the thread to decide.

Edited by: Destination SkillQueue on 22/01/2010 22:08:36 I don't think it works the way you think it works. A large battle can crash a node, but that just makes the game unplayable for them it doesn't really affect the whole game.

In RL whole countries are essentially the playgrounds for priviledged corporations and the ruling elite, the rest of the population can just fend for themselves. Why should Eve be any different?

You just contradicted yourself, you know-nothing trolling alt. And Rsk-Rwrd has nothing to do with this.
On the other hand, glee and flowers!

What a weird twisted argument, I'm not even sure what this post is supposed to be about.
Risk V. Reward? CCP has stated several times that they wish they never uttered that phrase because horrible posters try to use it as their basis of argument.
But this post wasn't about risk v reward... it was an unfocused rant from someone that got mad because despite knowing ahead of time that dumping 2000 people in to a system makes for a horrible gaming experience he/she did it anyways and for some reason is surprised by the result and feels shafted.
However if you are insisting that 48,000 people get kicked out of the game so 2,000 people can play the peg leg you are standing on has termites.

the risk reward was refering to the risk of making those 2000 happy over the rest of the playerbase. I wasn't trolling I was asking a question. Do the needs of those 2k people outweigh the rest indefinately and to any point?

If you had half a second you'd notice I'm in a corp, been in many since 2008, and my face isn't an exclamation point.
And CCP isn't stupid. Of course they'd take 50k people over 2000. Considering those 2000 have no other game like EVE they won't quit, so CCP is safe in serving those other 50,000 people.

Well, I assume CCP wants you to be able to have your 2000 man fights, however there are issues to overcome be that software or hardware I have no clue. When will you be able to have lagless 2,000 man fights? my guess is not for a while.
But if you want to put it in a purely binary risk v. reward
2,000 people = $30,0000 48,000 people = $720,000
follow the money and you will find the truth.

There is no reward in Risk. It's a pointless board game.

i pretty much agree with this. games shouldn't be games; they should be like real life.

I agree if you get podded you not only die, but the game deletes itself from the hard drive and you can never play again.
