TL;DR - There have been many instances in the history of EvE where creative people used the game's mechanics in a way that the devs hadn't considered. In the past people would reap large rewards with less effort because of the creativity that they used instead of the-grind. This eve where people are instead punished for out-thinking the devs is a gloomy place by comparison.
Here are a few things that I can recall that might fit into this category. Help me remember what other great things happened in EvE's past that I'm forgetting!
---
when 1 isk was the smallest unit of currency that could be transacted on the market, there was much money to be made by selling Tritanium to large battleship producers via the trade window at 1.5 isk per unit.
When there was no warp-to-zero, it was pure win to make a set of bookmarks that allowed to you to land directly on gates, and stations. When they changed the warp to from 10k to 15k ( or was it from 15k to 10k?) it made sense to re-make those bookmarks. On both occaisions, it made even more sense to make vast numbers of copies of these bookmarks and sell them on Escrow.
When NPC Cruisers ( because there weren't NPC battleships yet ) respawned the instant you destroyed one, it made sense to find that belt with 5x 40k or 4x 50k and shoot them for hours, not bothering with the hundreds ( thousands? ) of loot cans ( because there weren't wrecks yet, just cans ) because it would net you more isk/hour -- and it didn't hurt the security status any, either.
When you had the isk, it made sense to use your wealth to bribe agents periodically to raise your standing with them faster!
When insurance for a ship paid out more than the ship cost to build, it made sense to self-destruct those ships instead of selling them.
When you couldn't catch people easily enough at a gate camp, you deployed drones and even cans to give yourself an edge. -- Now we have freighters logging off on entering systems and getting away scott free...
When cruise missiles fit onto frigates, expensive targets were cheaper to kill.
When selling that caracal that was renamed Navy Caracal, was a pretty common, and lucrative thing to do.
When the Tech 2 BPO lottery was in place, it was very lucrative to train multiple accounts to sit idly and earn chances to win at maximum possible efficiency. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=118961

I seem to remember something else that also happened about obtaining T2 BPOs.. You can be as "creative" as you want as long as your actions don't result in a 20+ page threadnaught. Then CCP is forced to do something about it (because you know they aren't paying one second of attention to the daily goings in TQ, see the moon goo duping exploit)
Usually, this is easier to avoid as long as you don't start the thread e-peen waving. |

You aren't allowed to do anything in EVE that the game designers didn't specifically intend anymore. You must adhere to the idea of "correct" gameplay that CCP has in the minds and if you don't and you find a different way to play the game you'll be banned and whatever you were doing will be patched out of the game.
But don't you know, EVE is a sandbox? |
