Hello. I am relatively new at this game and relize that I haven't even scratched the surface of how indepth it really is, however i do have a senario along with a quick question.
My friend and play alot online together and he enjoys the mining scene whereas I enjoy the fighter type ships. We would like to venture into 0.0 space to mine some more lucrative ores. He has the hulk for his ship and I am wondering...for the purpose of protecting him best..would a BC (like the abso or Damnation) or a BS like the Abaddon or geddon work more to the advantage of our safe keeping?
Thank you so much in advance for your advice and help!! Cheers

in order to protect your friend on the 0.0 asteroid belts, assuming that you can get there and do not face some pirate just Rat, I suggest to go with the BS, you will be able to kill the rats very quick.
Geddon is a very good one to start with low skills, abaddon require more high skills
regards, Tanke

That being the case, what would one recommend as a fitting for a lesser skilled geddon?
Thank you so very much for your reply!

First things first, do NOT try to go out into 0.0 without joining an alliance or something. 2 neutrals mining at a belt are probably going to get nailed fairly quickly.
Once you have 0.0 access, I suggest you provide overwatch in a BS. Since you say you have low skills, I suggest the 'Geddon, since they aren't too painful to lose. Also, if fit properly they can produce some very respectable DPS even at low SP.
However, I can't stress enough the fact that players are your biggest threat. If I was scouting for a roaming HAC gang, a 'Geddon and a hulk alone at a belt would be the perfect target.

Wow! Outstanding advice. I totally neglected to factor in other players. Thank you very much for the enlightenment..lol. I haven't had the ability to invest much time into researching alliances. Might you recommend one or perhaps piont me in the right direction?

Sure. Goonswarm. Just don't give anyone of them isk upfront no matter what. Having said that they are pretty awful but they have a large member base of carebears with whom you could make good friends! |

While I can't recommend anyone offhand, I will say that I wouldn't go with the Goonswarm, they have a horrible reputation as scammers and griefers and at least personally I wouldn't want to be associated with them in any way. ... |

They have a website for you to go to that you join them through. DO NOT give any isk or assets to any goon member you contact. Only ask them for the web site. If they still try to con you find another. A lot of their lower level guys like to scam newer people mainly because goon alliance has the largest member base ingame. Like I said they are pretty awful but it's the nature of the beast. |

Edited by: Equus on 02/02/2010 20:40:37 I would recommend looking in the recruitment forum and finding a group of people that is a good fit for you and your friend. There are tons of corps and alliances out there. Talk to a few different ones and judge for yourself who sounds like a good fit. |

Derailed thread...???
Get access to a 0.0 Alliance, and then you can mine with the Hulk alone, as it can tank most Rat spawns with proper fitting. The best ship you could fly then to support his efforts would be an industrial...
A hulk sitting in hostile 0.0 space mining = like a long self-destruct timer. The same goes for a Ratting or even PVP BS - unless you really know how to fly it and that you won't be blobbed...even a single interceptor can be a threat to a BS in a belt, as disengaging without killing it / scaring it away won't be an option, and there would be 2x scenarios - even killing you solo (possible with a passive BS setup), or calling for help which will swarm to blob you (highly likely within 1-2 min).
