Right. So I like reading the Chronicles. Sort of. There's a lot of disconnect since this game is centered around the players rather than NPC arcs, but they're still a fun read.
Anyway, my question is simple: is there a particular order I should be reading these in or are they ALL stand-alone stories simply set in the same universe?

They're all basically stand alone, little snippets from history and little bits of technical and political backstory that give windows into life in New Eden.
There's a couple of chronicle series, like Methods of Torture, Black Mountain and more recently The Mercenaries, but unless they're named as such they're generally just little stand alone stories afaik.

Ah. Alright. I won't **** myself when looking at the Chronicles section now. Thank you!
I was also thinking of finding an artist to do a fancomic of EVE, but reading through EVElopedia, I think there's too many factions and too much history to remember in order to write something that isn't total ****.

A lot of people write very successfully, I wouldn't let the size of Eve's backstory put you off.

Don't worry about it. The quality of your writing is predicated on how realistically you can create characters rather than how well you can remember the minutiae of politics and history.

Besides which, there are lots of players out there who take it on themselves to learn as much of the setting detail as possible (I should know, I'm one of them) so if you find yourself needing to know whether or not something is valid, you can just ask. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

That's excellent advice (and I need to remember that more often). Still, the deeply interconnected history can really intimidate newcomers to the universe. If those of us who've worked in it for a while have trouble, I can only dimly remember the pain for those just getting going with EVE lore.
This bears a close relation to the troubles we've discussed lately on worldbuilding in EVE Online. I'd love to see CCP Games come up with a workable new model on incorporating player contributions to the universe. ISD Mercury provides a great basis from which to start, so perhaps that concept can grow? --
