Odd, I was viewing a bunch of fresh pilot infos in local last night just after having updated to the most recent Ubuntu build of Wine 1.1.38.
No hiccups at all.

Ah, appears to be only ship info icons. And no crashes yet, just the black box issue.

No crashes here but no icons either.
It works as long as there are already cached icons, otherwise the icons are mostly black or white with a faint outline.
PS: Voted

My problem with Wine 1.1.38 is that it fails to load any images at all except for the GUI, everything is black save for the interface, so voted and switched back to using Wine 1.1.37. On a related note, also having problems with the nvidia-190 drivers, stuck with the nvidia-185 as the 195 is giving me trouble too.
Got EVE working at the moment with Ubuntu 9.10, wine 1.1.37 and the nvidia-185 drivers

Thanks. My slackware died and I went with Ubuntu 9.10 as I couldnt get it to reinstall. Where can I find older .deb packages of wine? That way I can just throw 1.136 on here. Thanks.

Interesting, one has to refresh that patches page to see the latest changes.

You might want to reopen that bug.
I built with Stefans Patches and the crashes seem gone. However, there are still black icons for ships, all modules and blueprints for me.
Can somebody confirm this?

Yes, cache fully cleared (rm * in cachedir)
the crashes seem to be gone. I can lock and shoot targets, but I get no icons. Only a black icon picture, be it in space or in the hangar.
Well at least It doesn't crash.
Reverted back to .37

Oddly enough, there was a bug with identical symptoms on Windows when Apocrypha was launched, I remember crashing to desktop on my Vista when rendering icons on my first trip to W-space about a day after the patch went live.

Reading the appropriate bug report on the topic there's not a lot happening at all.
