Yes, trading can be frustrating but do you see hundreds of traders coming on to the forums to whine about it? Everyone deals with these things, the trick is to make sure that you have an exit strategy if someone does reduce your profit to nil.

Trading has never been about trading much really, its more of who's got the most patience and nerves. In the end of the day the guy that kept updating his order by 0.1 will win the trade and line his pockes and those that went to bed will be

Thought about looking in the mirror? Also maybe try to consider the motive for thier tactics? Are you going to keep trading in these items were it is apparent that u wont be making a profit?? Is their tactic working??? I think the OP answers the last question rather well.

What you're seeing is not necessarily the work of a new player. There are several possible explanations: someone could be burning the margin down to scare off the competition. Someone could be burning down the margin just because he can. Or, someone could be undercutting massively since he found the item in a wreck/stole it/bought it for a song, and doesn't care what it sells for so long as it sells quickly.

lol, tears. You can't see market tears. So what do they actually mean? Nothing! You might as well just self destruct velators and think to yourself "hehehe I am so evil I made tears of everyone".
lol, scaring away the competition. They just come back. So well done, you crashed a market, people moved to other products you didn't crash, and after it rights itself they will just move back.

Actually it is a valid tactic, if correctly applied. The OP is the perfect example, I can wipe out three or four of them from the bidding crowd just by upping the price once or twice by a psychologically significant amount (the amount most people would notice as significantly higher, something like the reverse of the 999,999.99 mind#%$^).
All I care is that I have a healthy margin. So if that screws with your 40% profit because I posted a bid at 16% profit you are unwilling to follow up (and I just love doing that because it means most people will just wait me out - I once turned three orders around in a row on the same commodity that way), that's your problem, and you're a greedy little n00b. :) |

He wasn't getting enough drops. He raised the price. Not only will it drive some traders out of this item and make the item drop more often to the buy orders overall, but also some traders will go on MD and post raaaage threads about it and everyone will gather around and drink their tears. It is a valid strategy.

I think he is saying he hates having sex with people new to the game. ------- "Be not, oh Greeks, so very hostilely disposed towards the Barbarians, nor look with ill will on their opinions. For which of your institutions has not been derived from the Barbarians?" |

if this is for real, you just made my day. i love it when the things i do make real traders to what you did now.
you see i am one of those people who jacks their prices up by loads when i get bid over by 0.1 isk. why because i dont want you to outbid me, i just want to sell my crap. and if you do it again ill go even further and add another couple of million. because i dont want to sell at the buy price - want a bit more isk but i cant be arsed sitting all day playing the stupid 0.1 isk game - i do things that are much more fun in eve when online, other than trading.
seriously funny dude. pls more emo rage.

Most of you have not read what i said. Go back and read a little slower, maybe read aloud. Some people find that helps! (hehe lol)
I was whining about people who dont drive me out of the market, since there is still a very healthy profit margin, but who just hurt profit for no reason. They dont follow up with any tactics. Tactics which would be meaningless anyway, since they cant have better margins than me anyway lol.
Very few people have the time (!) and means to corner a market, and to those that do, i will say good luck with that, i wish you the best (and get a life dude :D)
Wow, now i stuck my hand in a hornets nest. Offending everyone and whining at the same time. Sacrilegious. COME ON, let me have it! Rip me a new one.

Classic example of being Incompetent and unaware aka the Dunning Kruger effect.
Quote: 1. Incompetent individuals tend to overestimate their own level of skill. 2. Incompetent individuals fail to recognize genuine skill in others. 3. Incompetent individuals fail to recognize the extremity of their inadequacy. 4. If they can be trained to substantially improve their own skill level, these individuals can recognize and acknowledge their own previous lack of skill.

Crimson, has it occurred to you that the world does not revolve around you? Maybe their goal wasn't to drive *you* out of the market, but a crapload of other traders did give up? Maybe they figure that upping the buy order will attract more sellers to said order, thus filling it faster, and we all know that velocity+smaller margins>slow ass phat margins?
Or maybe they were just driven bonkers with all the 0.01 ISK games that they lost their cool and decided to get things going already.
Here's a tip for you. If you get frustrated while station trading, you're doing it wrong.

I'll buy stuff on the cheap, in size, in a diff region. Come back to Jita, sell it at the halfway or lower half of the bid/ask spread. It ****es everyone off but my stuff gets sold. Come down to meet my price and I'll just keep cutting it because I can afford to. .01isk game is lame and I'm not going to play it

Have you considered that the guy is trying to **** you off? If there is still a profit margin then he's probably not a noob who just wants it gone. There's a reason for him to slash the profit. ;)
