looks like it's a distro based on ubuntu/debian so there should be no reason for it not to work
For that matter, unless we are talking about a VERY specialised distribution, you should be able to run wine + eve on any up-to-date linux distribution
The only downside of the easy to use distros such as Ubuntu is that sometimes the distro obfuscates too much of its internal workings and understanding why something is not working becomes very difficult.
In the long run, some of the more "close to the metal" distributions (slack, gentoo etc) actually make your life easier as they let you understand what is going on.
But sure, for somebody discovering linux, no reason not to try the distro you mentioned. Just make sure to go slowly and RTFM before starting to install stuff all over the place in a random order :)

http://www.linuxmint.com/about.php It is compatible with and uses Ubuntu repositories. This gives Linux Mint users access to a huge collection of packages and software.

Mint 8 works flawlessly with 1 client for me.
But I still have dual client issues. A lot of them.

Using Linux Mint here myself, and while I can get eve to work fine, I have 2 main issues:
1) Sometimes it doesn't load. It shows the Splash Screen, then leaves a non-functioning process that I have to kill then try loading again.
2) The game Crashes randomly when it regains focus, either via Clicking or via Alt+Tab, even when using the "windowed" mode code found on the WineHQ AppDB.

1) mint is a Ubuntu derivative, you therefore get similar advantages and problems as the original. In particular, people have been reporting in various threads on this forum that Ubuntu ****ed up something when customising the kernel which causes problems with starting up the client. Several work-arounds have been posted but my personal suggestion would be to revert to a vanilla kernel and forget that custom ****.
2) s suggested solution for crash on focus change has been to run eve fullscreen within a virtual desktop. The exact command is available on the eve wiki under the linux article (something along the line of wine explorer /desktop= etc etc)
If you are already using this method then sorry, no idea.

1) Awesome, thanks.
No Chance of a link explaining how to do that?
2) Yup, I'm using that method+ :( Oh well. Hopefully the Kernal thingamawotzit will fix it :D

for 1) I'm not a Ubuntu user, sorry, not sure how this distribution handles kernel upgrades (in a fairly non-standard way I suspect, so somewhat reluctant to just dump instructions on you which might cause more harm than good).
I vaguely remember a thread on these forums about how to upgrade/recompile your kernel under ubuntu, otherwise the ubuntu forums/wiki should have a guide
In general, replacing a kernel is a fairly significant change to your system, so make sure you save your data (and you have a recovery/installation disk available) before attempting it ... just in case :)
for 2) ... that's unfortunate, the virtual desktop trick was supposed to fix this type of crash. are you running funky desktop effects/applications at the same time?
Sorry cannot be of more use, for what it's worth though, take things slowly, RTFM and you should find a solution eventually :)

I run EVE on Arch. Everything works fine.
The only thing is: you have to disconnect wireless before starting Eve...really bizarre...but it works. Then, after the load in screen comes up, you can connect to a Wireless network.
I've read there is a way to fix it, but really, the "connect/disconnect" trick is easy, and works fine.
I've still been unable to get EVE to work on Arch, though.

Hell yeah! \m/
Anyway, if you're running a 64-bit distro, make sure you install the 32-bit wine binaries since Wine64 isn't stable yet. Also, I had to install 32-bit drivers for my video card as well.
Other than that, I've had zero problems.

Hey! I thought I'd reply to your comment with an update (maybe someone new will come along after googling Eve Online Arch Linux).
Everything works EXTREMELY well. I decided to trash Gnome and install with XFCE4 (gotta change it up sometimes ;-) I installed the bin32 wine which is in the AUR, this time without PulseAudio. Last time, I'd also forgotten to install the directx drivers from winetricks--so, I did that this time...
And now...it works PERFECTLY. Also, there are no weird kernel problems in Arch requiring the disconnection of internet prior to loading EVE. So, if anyone out there is considering moving to Arch and playing EVE, I can highly recommend it. And g'damn, Arch was fast enough...it's even faster with XFCE (and oddly my oc'd processors seem to run cooler in xfce too...weird).

I was finally able to get Eve running on Mint 8, but I only have 2 issues.
1. Sometimes the planets are just either black or white. no texture whatsoever. 2. I can't get the default jukebox to run or a custom playlist
