So I log in to check my queue before leaving to work. 1 active stripped ship, zero wallet, empty ship hangar, empty stuff hangar.
Hacked... got to be... this is what hacked feels like.. no?
So I'm thinking.. how can this be? Then the server crashes. Now I'm thinking.. please be the reason for all to be missing.
And it was.. and everything is back.. thank you CCP :)
But even so.. my passwords are old.. My api are old.
So a database crash is a good simulation of an account hack.
Today I will change passwords on both accounts... to very strong passwords. Also make new api and review eve apps which I use.
It is good to be safe no? Look at this crash as a wake up call and be sure your accounts are safe.

That's quite odd... anyway your API can't let anyone actually log into your account, even with the full API. They have access to a lot of information about your characters, but nothing to get them into your accounts.

I know how to make Eve really safe.
[x] Allow logins from your ip subnet only
There. Now nobody outside your network can even get into your account with the right password.
Want to play from somewhere else? Allow temporary disabling of this rule by sending a email from your registered email account.
Too technical? Too much mails to support about not being able to login? Make it opt-in as a option so people who have a clue can get better protection.

Totally pointless option for the 90% of users on dynamic IP addresses from there ISPs. That is unless you are talking about your LAN IP subnet that is completely arbitrary and in most home situations is something to the tune of 192.168.0.###.
Use a strong password that can not be guessed by anyone that knows your dogs name and keep your PC clean. No further security is needed.

I said subnet, not IP. Usually people end up with addresses in the same subnet when they have dynamic ip.
Of course Im not talking about private addresses since those cant even get routed across the internet.
ISP's dont just give out random ip address from all over the internet you know. :)

No but depending on the size of your ISP the subnet can be anyway from a few addresses in a small range to several million addresses available to the user. So that means that if you lock it down to your subnet anywhere from 250 or so to several million other customers from your isp could still access your account. If they can get past your password that is. Granted limiting the number of potential people that could access your account is good but anyone smart enough to understand this method and be able to provide CCP the info needed to use it on there account is probably smart enough to not need it in the first place. For any security to be effective it has to be really simple for the end user to understand and use otherwise it falls victim to stupidity.
