Theoretically speaking - if there is a 0.0 system (propably cyno jammed) is there a way to gank a carrier in Sanctum or Haven class anomaly in reasonable timeframe - say 3 to 4 minutes or so and get out before rest of the local piles on your gang.
Archon and Chimera are harder to gank I assume than nidhog and thantanos as they have resist bonus. So if I assume it's one of those with resist bonus and that it's not in pvp fitted but has modifications to be 'better' in pve (3-4 drone control units with perhaps 1 neut or smarbomb) and has only 2-3 hardeners / damage controls I get somewhere around 800 000 or so ehp to bite thru. So to kill it within 4 minutes I would need 3333 dps ? Above it's tanking ability that is propably somewhere 1700 - 1800 dps if it's pve fitted, reduced by the number of rats it has on it ofc. Am I missing something in here ?
I mean 10 strong HAC gang could kinda do that but it's not something you exactly sneak around with. There seems also be a lot of talk of late in forums about black ops - I must admit I do not fly those myself so what kind of dps do they do in 'real eve' (as opposed to EFT stats) ? They look kinda good for that purpose (being able to jump into cyno jammed cystem and all that) just damn lot of isk to put on the table.
Also what would be the best way to keep it there (if one would go with hac gang idea). Just find it with cov ops, get intercictor on him drop an interdictor bubble on it and then run there over 2 to 3 jumps with HAC's for the kill ? Before locals work themselves up to undock with blob.
This is just kinda theoretical. Ie how 'hard' is it to kill carrier with 'crap' (for pvp purposes) fit ?

10 hacs will not do it before he calls backup. try 10 gank/rr bs
assuming that the carrier will be pve fitted is a mistake.
doesnt matter if the system is cynojammed or not if your not in caps yourself...
last time i checked, 10 points will get a carrier to stay...
local don't need a blob. they need 1 other carrier, and you'll have to leave
easy if its alone. depends on his friends reaction time

Not an expert on this at all, if your looking at black ops, they don't do enough DPS at all to kill the carrier, if you want suprise, maybe a black ops cyno gang with a bunch of stealth bombers could do enough dps, problem is fighters and drones will pop the SB's pretty much instantly...if your taking a HAC/RR BS gang then look at taking curses to cap out the carrier, that seems to be a sure fire way to take one down, watch local for a spike and if cyno pops then GTFO

Heavy neuting works wonders on a single carrier. You will still need time to do sufficient damage.
HACs, couple of Curses/Pilgrims, and some logistics.
For Black Ops you can bridge a gang on top of him. Hero tackle with a cov ops or recon (hope your gang arrives before he has managed to lock you). Bombers do great DPS, but are paperthin. Use falcons to keep him from locking.
Sort of depends on how quick and aggressive the locals are.

I see two problems with this plan.
1) If the carrier has backup in system, they will be on you in 1 minute, not 4-5. 2) I thought sleepers cycled targets? Before too long, you'd be dealing with the Carrier + the likely support, and random aggro from sleepers.
If you have 10 guys at your disposal, fit out an RR BS gang and go for it. With decent spider tanking, the fleet should be durable enough to beat the carrier and deal with any unpleasantness that come by.

Note: Carriers are immune to electronic warfare and cannot be warp scrambled. The only way to pin a carrier is to use a Heavy Interdictor.
A carrier will not just be floating in space with no support, unless you find somebody stupid enough to try to do plexes with no corp backup.
Good luck.

Good grief. This is supercaps only, not carriers.

Your an moran. Supercarriers require a HIC to lock them down, regular carriers do not. And yes, there are plenty of people who solo plex in carriers and even MILFs.
OP it depends really. 10 HACs will take down a carrier PDQ if you bring a Curse or two along with you as well. As for backup, it really depends. A lot of Alliances are pretty turgid and slow to react. A little while ago we 'chained' a carrier with a small gang while waiting for our DPS to arrive and popped anything that came to assist him, there was no real show of force for around 45 mins when 10 carriers cyno'd in, forced us to break off and then left bar 4, one of whom we managed to bump off and kill, keep in mind this was in the heartland of that particular Alliance's space (although not a station system).

TBH, due to poor game mechanics, once the carrier pilot sees he is going to loose, he will self destruct the ship. Thus you wasting your time and him getting whatever insurance payout it has with no loss mail.

Edited by: MalnarTheTall on 12/02/2010 22:06:23 Well, it only takes a handful of BCs, a few CS, and support. We caught a carrier (ratting?) on a gate w/ a BS and a Sleipnir for support: http://thedeadterrorists.com/DTForum/index.php/topic,1179.0.html
30ish minute fight, he even had another carrier try to save him. Of course, if he was good, or had serious backup, we'd have been pwnd. But...its possible. If your target carrier stay in that anomally once a gang large enough to truly gank him arrives, his own fault for not having eyes where it counts
EDIT: Above link is prolly in the member only section, so here's the FC's summary of the fight:
Quote: Nidhoggur was gatecamping (20km from OU- gate.) Our rear scout picked him up, pointed him, and from there the next 30 minutes were pretty intense.
Most of the ships we killed had reps from both the Chimera and Nid, but we had enough DPS to break them in time to keep most of that DPS alive. Excellent work by our ECM boats to bang off several successful jams in situations we needed it most (i.e. when our Onyx got neuted to ****.)
It should be noted that the Nid assigned all of his fighters to Bijih Bah's Phantasm from the get go and Bijih Bah spent most of the fight warping around system and watching them follow her. Tobias Nightrunner (Onyx) did an excellent job of maintaining a point while the others orbited at a safe distance and rained scores of heavy missiles down on the sad panda of a carrier pilot.
All in all, it came down to perseverance and great discipline by the fleet. Thanks to everyone who took part.
...and remember, it was all because of the Quafe Ultra.

Hmm, yes, I would say thats a accurate insight on what would happen if you and your squad where to go for the target. At least thats what I would do if it were my cap
