Edited by: tikki on 11/02/2010 13:53:28 T-Wrecks is a small pvp corp currently based our of Derelik. Recently one of our neighbours has taken to visiting us for a bit of pew pew. As we are all -10 their initial tactic was to bring ECM and take advantage of the fact that we couldnÆt reciprocate. With their confidence growing 3 days their tact changed to hot dropping. 1 guy with a bait ship and a few carriers dropping in. First kill they dropped 2 carriers on a battle cruiser at a gate: http://www.t-wrecks.online-eve.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1542
This now got our interest...and opportunity for capital kills, they are willing to hot drop at a gate without knowing what capital capability we had...maybe just a one off
Later that day they did the same to kill another Battlecruiser but this time they brought a mothership too!!! http://www.t-wrecks.online-eve.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1543
With the opportunity for a super cap kill now IÆm really interested. So time to call some old friends and line up our own little hot drop. We know their bait characters and the name of the mothership pilot so we can monitor. That evening their bait character (2xd) is in our local system docked in station. We start forming up but by the time weÆve got comms and Heavy dictors sorted heÆs logged and the mom pilot isnÆt online.
Day 2 and 2XD is again in local but earlier this time and heÆs upgraded his cruiser to a prophecy. We happen to be playing around with smart bombing disco BS at the time so we take the bait and see if we can pop him before the cap support can jump in. In the meantime again the call goes out to form up our fleet. We have comms sorted so things happen a bit quicker this time. We engage the prophecy and true to form again 2 carriers and a mom hop into system. They rep 2XD and take out one of our BS. http://www.t-wrecks.online-eve.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1547 . We have them in local and are trying to get everyone lined up. We know this is a 1 shot deal so want to get it right. By the time we are ready the mom is off grid and their gang is dissipating. The bait ship has logged so we decide to stand down. Lesson learnt, the next day we form up earlier and get in place to go.
Day 3 we form up 20:00 as agreed. A quick locator agent check tells us that 2XD is 3 jumps away in Hothomout. I send my out of corp alt over there and find our friends have already been busy. The mothership pilot is in local already as are some of his friends. They are busy scooping loot out of a Thanatos wreck on the station. 2XD is sitting in his Prophecy outside station watching as his CEO makes several trips to the wreck in his hauler. Then Rocket X in his Aeon logs off, 2XD is still online but once the wreck has been emptied he docks up and doesnÆt come out. His CEO undocks this time in a Moros and cynos out. Maybe we are too late...is that it for the night for them already! Hotho is a horrible system for us, surrounded by high sec so hard for us to get our -10 Dictor pilots in. Waiting game time. 2XD is still logged in and docked in station so we decide to wait for him to make a move.
22:00 and heÆs still gone nowhere, our fleet numbers are starting to dwindle, maybe weÆll have to wait another day. 2XD logs, order goes out to stand down. Minutes later and RocketX logs back in. If the mom is online itÆs worth waiting a little longer! At the same time, or maybe this was the reason that the mom logged back in, 2 random carrier pilots have cynoÆd into Irshah and docked at the kickout station, maybe we just got really lucky! Free bait
I take another alt in a covert towards their home system just to see what they are doing, 2 jumps out in onsooh I come across some of their gang. With them is V3CTOR in his Arazu. He dropped the cyno for our first loss so maybe we are in luck after all (turns out this is Rocket XÆs alt). I follow them back to Irshah where ther arazu cloaks outside station.

Edited by: tikki on 11/02/2010 13:57:57 Perfect! I decide we donÆt want to wait for the carriers to undock so I dock my alt and switch to a carrier, fit it with more tank and weÆre ready to go. HIDs docked in station ready to go, BS with cyno ready, cap fleet 1 jump out ready.
Time to play the dumb capital pilot. I undock the carrier with no cyno (in case they are doing ship scanning) and as hoped the arazu uncloaks. I wait most of my session timer then turn like IÆm trying to get back to dock range. Arazu points me, fires the cyno and in jumps 2 carriers, the CEO in his Dread, Rocket X in his Aeon and a Nyx! I tell the heavy dictors to undock and point the Aeon...tempting to take the nyx first but decide to still to original plan. As soon as POINT is called our cyno BS undocks and lights it up, in hop our 5 motherships and assorted carrier support. My alt carrier is losing armor fast but my focus is my main whoÆs in a heavy dictor. We know if we keep the HIDs alive itÆs just a matter of time. As my alt starts to bleed structure the carriers reps kick in and within seconds heÆs back to full armor. The HIDs are cycling their points and getting repped well and thereÆs no sign of the moms getting away. We point the Nyx up with 1 HID but the focus is on the Aeon. HeÆs into armor now and he realises the game is probably up. Both the Nyx and Rocket X in his Aeon hit the self destruct button! We have 1 minute to get that killmail!!! Extremly unlikely but either way heÆs gonna die.
The Aeon is at half armor, weÆre doing our best ot keep them bumped. Local rises by 20...support on their way!? With a fire of the remote ecm the nyx gets out, cancels his self destruct and cynoÆs out. Rocket X cancels his self destruct too. HeÆs given up trying to kill the HIDs and is now trying to use ecm drones. ItÆs not going well so he hits the self destruct again. 25% armor left and a cruiser gang land on the station...is this the support, probably full of ecm drones and here to pop the HIDS. As quickly as they came they are gone again! Just a coincidence?
Aeon is hitting structure....BOOM, self destruct kicks in! Shame we didnÆt actually see him pop but we can still claim the kill û fake mail time! http://www.t-wrecks.online-eve.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1559 I want to be clear this is a fake killmail, we have no idea what his real fit was!, but we feel that it is deserving of being on our killboard! Their support is still on the field. The moros presumably is still in siege so heÆs next target http://www.t-wrecks.online-eve.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=1558 and melts pretty quick. Their carriers make it to station and dock or cyno out.
To wrap things up one of the random carriers that we saw docking suddenly undocks to be faced by 5 motherships and 20 carriers! HeÆs dead within seconds. Self destructing is always a bit tragic but that was Rocket X / V3CTORÆs choice. According to local he has another 3 so I guess he wonÆt miss it that much! Lets hope he brings another soon!
Many thanks to our Dictor pilots and to our friends in QUAM who brought it!

Nice story and good kill. it happens alot where the SD game mech deprives you of a km, this make it ok to fake km's?

Nice AAR amigo, accurate and a good read.
It is a shame about the self destruct but with a potential killmail like that, admittance of a fake is no bad thing imo. Self destruct should be relative to ship mass imo, anyways another awesome night in the talon room

Please pardon the prissy overtones that will be found throughout this letter, but the reservoir from which CCP draws its lickspittles is primarily the masses of revolting enemies of the people. |

While under normal circumstances I am against fake KMs, when a cap ship decides to self destruct to avoid one, I do feel it would be and is justifiable. As far as the Self Destruct mechanic goes, I feel it should be modified and I am going to start an appropriate thread on the Features and Ideas forum here. I feel one simple work around would be that if a ship is scrammed, webbed or pointed it should not be able to self destruct. I could even give a pretty good technical reason how to fit this in game. "Since a ships ability to self destruct depends on being able to overload its engines, when the engine function is interrupted by a warp disruptor, warp scrambler or a stasis webifier the pilot is unable to initiate the overload."
Additionally I feel that a self destruct should be immediate after you respond to the question do you want to self-destruct.
If you agree with my position on self destruct, take the time to go to the thread in Features and Ideas and helop me make our opinion heard.

many threads have been started due to the SD mech, nothing as of yet has changed, iv lost a good few kills due to it and never felt the need to fake anything ^^
Screen shot of ship in low armor / hull, log of him SD'in, post on BC with their newest loss for intel purpose (this is about as lame as i go).... could go further by posting a thread warning more ppl that he SD's, thus ensuring that the next group to kill his cap brings enough DPS to kill it within the given (current) timer.

Oh boo hoo, he is not trying to fool anyone so it is hardly a "fake" mail. More like a joke mail in tribute of an awesome kill. Glad to see that V3CTOR and his alts read the forums though.

There will be a fraps video up soon...
Its ashame we did it when we did, we could have popped him a lot faster if we had the fleet we had an hour befor the fight happened... Our numbers had nearly halfed and we lost a few supercaps. But eve is still minus 1 Aeon!
As for the self destruct timer, im getting tired of CCP deglecting this... I watched the roundtable at the last Fanfest, and this was bought up. The more mass, the longer it should take to self destruct, or if youf pointed you shouldnt be able to... Now the CCP guys at the round table looked like they reely liked this idea and were nodding away and writing down notes...
Sort it out CCP... This should have came as a package with the Capital changes!

You've got to be pretty dumb to lose a MILF in lowsec to a gang with only 4 Hics in it. But then it is Rocket X...

in the future, it helps if you have fraps when you fake a km.
that way you have proof that you were indeed going to kill that ship if it hadn't /wrist ♥

SD should be treated as a killing blow, nothing more, with him getting his own kill shot, so to speak, and the killmail going to everyone who participated, as normal.
Problem solved.

Very enjoyable story, I just happened to see the killmail earlier today.
Fake killmails are but at least you were up front about it.

Edited by: RoCkEt X on 11/02/2010 21:53:39 Was great fight, the hauler carrier full of minerals was our target... i knew when the thanatos undocked something was up, but went in anyway.
i guess the carrier we popped earlier had us hungry for more. was stupid to drop :P but well worth the fun.
and before i get flamed, yes, self destructing is lame, (i aborted 3 times during the fight, and fired my ECM burst just as my cap died allowing the nyx to warp).. then re-initiated and waited for the boom. (i got bumped by a carrier when i was about to warp)
so i'll say again SELF DESTRUCTING IS LAME, but everyone even on the other side has said they'd have done the same. and even if not, they said they'd never have the nuts to drop with as little support as i do.
If you play at that level, you win and lose at that level. even after losing, theres no bigger rush for me than being dropped like that and fighting my way out.
i've no intention to change the ships i fly or the way i fly them. if you can, you should! the fight was awesome, and mad props to all involved!!
-Rock
//EDIT: as for being dumb to lose to 4 HIC's in lowsec... we'd just jumped in, so had low cap - i was capped out within 2 mins of the hostile cyno going up. i'd love to see any mothership pilot do better than i did trying to get out. i had ecm drones out and was doing all i could. the HIC pilots will tell u that lol :D. once ur pinned an capless, u're essentially an oversized freighter.
//EDIT 2: also confirming i was well and truly f**ked, so yes, they were going to kill me lol - no need for fraps - altho i'd love to watch it back.
