Hi
The Hail ammo description include this ". Any pilot using this ammunition should be prepared to trade optimal range and capacitor energy for increased tracking speed and a devastating amount of damage."
Yet if you look at the stats: Tracking speed multipler = x0.5
That doesn't add up for me.
I see the same reduce tracking for conflagarion and void. so I'm assuming that the description for Hail is wrong.
Anyways Hail seems completely pointless then anyways compared to republic fleet fusion. Hail gives you: -reduced range -reduced tracking -reduced falloff -just about same Damage The only real advantage is that Hail is cheaper. But not sure if thats worthit really since you aint gonna hit anything accept perhaps a capital ship if you're right next to it.

Yep.
Hail sucks.
Oh and you forgot the part where it nerfs your capacitor recharge rate. Please pardon the prissy overtones that will be found throughout this letter, but the reservoir from which CCP draws its lickspittles is primarily the masses of revolting enemies of the people. |

After having once used Quake, I thought Hail wasn't so bad. Then I tried to hit a cruiser that I was orbiting with it....
As far as I know, Hail and Quake are about the two single most useless pieces of ammo in the game.

Hail CAN be useful in some situations. Like if I'm flying a BC and don't care about the cap penalty (read passive armor cane), and I'm in a big BS fight, and neither my target nor me are moving to create any transversal to speak of, the slightly higher DPS than RF fusion and the lower price is actually considerable. but this is very situational, and there's little point in carrying the stuff around.

Hail is only useful when shooting targets bigger than your own ship, say you are at knife range to a capital ship in your battlecruiser, you'd use hail and it would make sense.

All the short range T2 ammo's are overshadowed by the awesomeness that is faction ammo .. sad, but true. They are suffering from not having been changed at all while the universe churns on relentlessly .. same as so many other things.
There was an attempt at bringing this unfortunate fact to CCPs attention quite some time ago but it fizzled out for some reason. Would be nice to have it made worth buying/selling/manufacturing again.

Hail suffers from the same problem all the short range T2 ammo has, almost the same damage as faction, with massive drawbacks.
Basicly, Short-range T2 turret, and precision missile ammo are really quite useless --------------------------------------------

That would work except whenever I tried using it in a fleet it ****ed with my cap so much I had to warp 3 times to get to the next gate and fell behind.

It's another symptom of "damage-phobia" disorder that CCP game designers have. For some reason they just really afraid of anything that increases damage, it's evident in most aspects of EVE game design. One big exception being Titans.

Edited by: Othran on 13/02/2010 08:39:25 Hail was roughly 15% more damage than faction ammo until Dominion and the (much overdue) projectiles boost.
Now its roughly the same damage as Republic Fleet Fusion.
Its cheaper though so when you're trying to blast through an armour tank and the target isn't going anywhere then you may as well switch ammo and save cash. Carry some as backup to the faction ammo - you'll probably never use it but it'll be cheaper than losing the same amount of faction ammo when you pop.
Apart from that forget hail.

Well at least they removed the rage penalty, since it was clearly a mistake since hail's function is to cause rage on the users

Hail, quake, void, javelin, conflag and gleam are all poor compared to their faction equivalent. In fact I had to look up the T2 short range beam crystal name its so rarely used. Not sure about the T2 missiles as I never use em.

Conflag isn't -too- bad in that it is high damage and relatively cheap compared to the faction ammo. I use it for PvE when tracking isn't a big issue. It can even be useful in PvP if the target is webbed down nicely. The nice thing about lasers is that reloading is instant.
Javelin also has situational uses. I might get snagged by an interceptor in my Drake and the pilot will giggle, thinking he is outside of my HAM range. Javs will give him a nice surprise (even if the damage is meh). I ALWAYS carry a bit of javelin ammo just in case (it's super cheap), but admittedly only rarely use it.

There is a short range railgun ammo called Javelin, which is what I was referring to

It's pretty much like that, plus conflag can be changed into multifreq really fast, so it's not a big deal. Doing slightly more dmg with slightly more thermal is occasionally useful, it will only take few meters of cargo and can be swapped in a moment. And yes, I also carry javelins for those just in case situations, not that they happen a lot.
Hail was useful pre dominion for turning ACs into blasters and melting faces at point blank, now with the new fusion it's obviously obsolete and shouldn't be used at all.

Continuing that line of thought, Hail should obviously be Rail T2 close range ammo.

Maelstrom 40km apha strike of doom, that's about all Ive ever used quake for.
Th projectile range ammo (barrage in particular) more than makes up for this suckage though.
