Im having the same problem with a Radeon 9000 (non mob.)... Crashes when exiting the station have been solved by the "sun occlusion" setting, BUT i still get occasional system hangs while warping. Yesterday during a trip of 15 warps, i crashed 5-6 times. This is not acceptable, please ccp do something about that. Im trying now to install catalyst drivers 4.10... hope that works. Oh and please can you stick this topic?

Wow great and i thought i was the only one....well i think im late on the wagon here but i also have an ati radeon 9200 i told ccp about the problem 1st b4 i came here they told me to update drivers and put low planet details. Okay so i did this and that got the catalyst drivers 4.1 and i STILL ******* freeze wut the hell is going on? Like seriously this is *** its worthless to play if everytime you undock you have to restart your computer, anyways i havent tried the "occuluded sun" thingy but that is next... if any1 else find anymore work around please by god post them since CCP is leaving it to do it on our own since they seem not to care that WE pay them.

Omega drivers along with these part of Brunis's sticky post solved for me. Btw I m using an M6-P mobility (oldschool ) and had the crashing " feature " as well.
Originally by: Brunis Edited by: Brunis on 21/11/2004 23:41:42 Oki i have played around with this for quite some while and ive made a list of stuff that will help increasing your FPS in Eve.
These changes should hold most of you unstill Shiva when the client side fixes (that people talk about) for FPS should get in game.
Okay here we go Tips for good FPS in Eve:
To tjeck at what FPS your Eve is running press "CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-M" - This will pop up a small windows showing FPS, it can also show other usefull stuff.
Turn of "Sun is occluded by ships" in the ESC menu under generic - This should boost your FPS a little while in-space[Newly added since i forgot to add this the first time]
Turn off sound card or just do a CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-F12 in-game (EVERYTIME you start Eve!) - Eve seems to have problems with most sound cards so changing this should free some resources. Remember to tjeck the FPS counter with this option though, you might just be one of the lucky with a sound card that Eve works with.
Put in advancedDevice=1 (notice the lowercase a and upper case D) in your prefs.ini now some new settings have appeared in the graphics options in the ESC menu, change the "present interval" to intervel immediate - This one boosted my FPS alot! "Interval immediate" means "no vsync". "Interval one" means wait for vsync. "Interval default" is probably vsync on, depending on your display setup. For the full explanation see D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS in the DXSDK. <-- Thank you to Mark A for the info about what it does.
Change desktopHeight and desktopWidth to match thoes of your desktop in the prefs.ini - If your running your windows in 1600 x 1200 then change the settings to match those.
Change buffersize to half of what RAM you may have in the prefs.ini - So if you have 512MB RAM then you change it to 256MB
Disable any secondary display - This will give your GFX card less work to do but unless CPU is not your bottleneck this should not help much.
If posible upgrade your machine to 1024MB RAM or more - Eve uses alot of memory so upgrading to 1024MB or more should help quite a bit.
If sound card enabled try and turn off any hardware acc on it in "dxdiag" - Look at the other bit where i explained sound cards.
When in-game press CTRL-Tab to get rid of the UI (only if you can live without the scanner) - Eve seems to have some issues with the transparentcy in the UI, using this removes most of the UI and frees a lot of resources.
Close every program posible in Windows since Eve is VERY CPU demanding - Even stopping stuff like Winamp and mIRC will help, so close everything you don't need!
Run the game in full screen - This seems to boost the FPS for some reason but probely just Windows alocating more resources to Eve.

Definately something to do with Sun causing crashes, mostly on ATI Mobility cards. Totally agree with Alaina (read previous posts!).
Make sure you have Sun Occlured by ships off/unticked, clever people may want to amend the prefs.ini file with sunOcclusion=1 (you'll find this file in the cache folder). It also looks like the game reactivates the setting at will. Very annoying!!
!!!! CCP please sort this !!!! |

The Omega drivers allowed for flawless gameplay for hour yesterday. It was great. Beware though: two of my roomates have the exact same laptop as mine (school policy.) Neither of them had a flawless installation of the drivers like myself, and one could not get past startup afterward. Potentially, the drivers are awesome, but they may not work for everyone. Worth a shot though....

Please do tell of your ingame settings
The VPU recover of the omega drivers is a gem...allows me to try other options...but so far no success :( -----

Hi Guys,
Interestingly, I have been having very similar problems with a GeForce 6800 LE card. I ran the logging utility CCP supply and captured a number of stack dumps in the runtime. The funny thing is until today I thought my problem was purely with Fatal XP resets, however today I had a window freeze. It seems this "feature" may have a darker side when introduced to the 6800. I think it may be a repeat failure during flight/maps and 3d graphics. I suspect its memory scribbling and somtimes it resets you, sometimes it kills the window. If you are lucky it recovers. The support guys have asked me to do some bits to help track my issue, but I think this may be a more general 3D graphic engine problem.
If you go to the CCP directory you will find a tool called logserver.exe. Try running this and create a new workspace. Then run eve, it will run like a dog but hey... This will produce a log of all the internal events that can be saved after a crash. You can then send this to CCP as you are then giving then a trace to find the problem with..
Cheers,
Rob
N.B.: I'll try some of the graphics settings tomorrow.... This problem is really hacking me off, I don't get much time to play normally.

My CTD's are directly related to those fancy nebula clours/effects introduced in Exodus.
Would really appreciate the option to turn them off.
Other ATI users, please try confirm this. My crashes only happen whenever I look at a nebula or other background effect (This is with sun occlusion off) -----
