After 6 years of loyal service my laptop has fried its graphics card. this comes shortly after my desktop deciding to fry the majority of its components in one go . So right now I have no way to get on eve and this just wont do.
I have replaced pc components before and stripped and rebuilt them but i have never had to put together a computer to my own specs.
i have come up with a list of what i think would be a functioning pc (minus disc drives, keyboards etc)and was just hoping that one of you tech experts out there could give it a look over for me to prevent me making any ******ed mistakes. also going to get an oem copy of windows 7 with this. any help or advice you can give me is very much appreciated.
all the items are on dabs.com and hopefully if my forum-fu skills work i will linky each item for specs etc. I am going to be buying this as and when i can component by componenent finances allowing (this is why i havent just taken the easy option and bought a pre built tower)
Motherboard Processor heatsink/fan RAM Power supply HDD Graphics card case
If any of you are willing to have a look round the dabs website for alternatives to the components i have listed i would be very grateful as i need to get this right(getting withdrawal symptoms already). Sadly the budget doesnt really stretch more than i have taken with my list.
Thanks in advance

only thing I have to say about that is: don't skimp on the PSU, get an ati 5850, and for the HD's, well, I have a 750gb seagate and a 1tb WD caviar green. both good HD's, and the caviar green HD is a very good and cheap low-power HD. Awesome for storage. ---

Well at the minute the budget doesnt stretch very far at all but what i am really looking for is whether or not this setup does/doesn't have any glaring errors like non-compatability or conflicts. Also it would be a bonus to be able to run 2 clients at once for not very demanding stuff i.e mission salvaging or mining without bogging down too much and without having to drop the settings right down.
Again any help would be appreciated

Edited by: NeoShocker on 14/02/2010 21:39:11 I'm sure this linkie will help you. :) It can give you some good idea on few PC setups between:
Bugdget Mid-Range High End Dream System
You should get a better PSU at least 650W so in case you want to improve graphics card and if having multiple of HDs. I think you need a better graphics card such as the 9800GTX or Radeon HD 5770. I know you're building a budget PC, but if you can squeeze out the cash, go for mid range setup for price.
Other than that, its looks cool on the links you posted. :) ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

QFT - cheap PSUs are a false economy. Lead to unstable systems, or if you're unlucky fried components.
As for the rest, you're obviously on a very tight budget. If this is by choice rather than necessity I'd say look to up it somewhat (say to at least a GF9800 GFX card - there would be a significant performance boost - and probably the X4 CPU). Otherwise what you've specced will probably be fine (but I'm not sure the GFX card will really be up to it).
Finally - I usually find these guys Linkage a bit cheaper than dabs when speccing a full PC - haven't checked all your bits but I'd recommend you take a look...

Edited by: Krinthe on 15/02/2010 20:49:56 If I may suggest, go into these forums HardForums and ask your question there. Ive been a member there for many years and I can honestly say, everyone there LOVES to spec out computers for others. Its very similar to here when someone asks for a good fitting for a ship.
Anything and everything you ever wanted to know about computers can be found here.
There is even a games forum within so you can make your post there saying you play EVE (which there are many of us there who do) and they will gladly assist your needs.
It is a very VERY active community, so your post will most definitely be answered quickly. A 10th of all I earn I keep for myself. |
