Quick Question about salvaging:
Does a Salvager II simply give you better chances to get stuff, or do you get MORE stuff with Salvager II? I have Salvaging IV and with a Noctis I can clear a battlefield quickly - almost all wrecks are salvaged in one cycle.
I know that Salvager II modules increase your CHANCES of salvaging, but is there a chance of MORE SALVAGE as well? If not, then I don't see it being worth the extra 13 or so days to train..
Thanks and Fly Safe! |

Salvager IIs have no effect on what you get, only how quickly you get it. This makes a larger difference on things that are hard to salvage in the first place (commander wrecks, sleepers, T2 ships, etc).
If you're using a Noctis and salvaging quickly enough for your taste, drop some salvagers and add more tractors. |

Fitting t2 salvagers on a Noctis is pretty much overkill. However if you are the carebear type and flies a Marauder then they are a good investment. |

Don't forget the extra range, it may not be much but you'd be surprised how many empty wrecks you'll find outside 5km but inside 6km.
But, as stated above, no, the amount of salvage a wreck comprises is in no way governed by your skills or equipment. it may as well have been generated at the moment the wreck was created (though that would be an inefficient approach). |

With a Noctis's cargo and amount of tractors you can fit, you'll want the wreck next to you to loot anyway. Slow speed means you'll tractor in everything instead of going to it, so there's no reason to turn off tractor before it's all the way in, especially given increased tractor velocity. |

Whether you have T1 or T2 salvagers, the Prospector implant which increases the chance, or Salvaging trained to level 1 or 5, what you get from a given wreck will always be the same. If you have two people salvaging the same wreck, and one person is using a T1 salvager, and the other is using a T2 one, either of them will get the same components, it's just one will have a higher chance of getting those components first.
What a wreck salvages for is determined by the server when the wreck is created. So there's no skill or gear in game which will improve what you get from a wreck. They only increase your chances of salvaging faster. |

T2 salvagers also allow you to salvage the wrecks of T2 ships. You can get T2 salvage with T2 salvagers, from either other players' T2 ships or from NPC boss wrecks. |

I disagree.
Salvaging faster means you spend less of your time salvaging. If you gain equal parts from two events, but one event is done faster, then the event done faster has a higher opportunity cost income.
If you are salvaging too fast for your tractor beams, remove one salvager and replace it with a tractor beam. . |

You can get T2 salvage with T1 salvagers too (I have done it many times), you just need atleast 3-4 lvls in Salvaging and some patience. |

As stated previously in another thread just today, the difference is astronomical.
5% per level vs 7% per level. 2% increase in chance to salvage times 5 (for level 5) times every wreck you ever salvage.

Yes, it is a large difference. However, you have to ask yourself if it's really worth it compared to what else you might be training. Yes, that extra 5s of cycle time from another salvage does add up, but will it outweigh the speed increase that training for a T2 ship or weapons gives you instead? There's no one 'right' answer, you don't have to use T2 ones but they are helpful, you just have to weigh the benefit of T2 salvagers against the opportunity cost of getting them (namely the training time for them). |

If you fly a Noctis with Ore Industrial at level III or above then the amount of time invested into "salvaging" is already large enough that spending another week is a small percentage that it only makes sense to train up to be able to use Salvager IIs. In my mind.
If you're salvaging in a destroyer, things might be a little different. . |

Its at least 10% difference (t1 vs t2) no matter what ship you fly, and that's going from level 5 salvaging with t1 salvagers. Nobody does that. From level 4 salvaging with t1 salvagers (20%) to l5 with t2 (35%) is 15% The noctis bonus only reduces the time. Its a great bonus, but not relevant to weather or not l5 salvaging is worth it or not. Its a free pass every 7-8 tries. When added up over thousands upon thousands of wrecks, it staggering.

That's like saying T2 AC's on a mach is overkill. Fitting the best tool for the job, on the best ship for the job, is just basic common sense. |

The better your chances the more likely you'll salvage the wreck on the first try.
I've got salvaging trained to 5 and use salvager II's with salvage takle rigs on my noctis.
I almost never fail to salvage a wreck on the first try. So it speeds up the process of salvaging an area considerably.
Of all the skills you'll train over your career, 13 days is really nothing and IMO quite worth it. |
