I have a short question to people into graphics.
This is the Wolf screenshot I found on one of the blogs IIRC:
I just admire the visual style of the screenshot - 1. Detail and color tone of the ship and 2. "Wide-lens-camera" effect, which makes the ship "spread" more on picture;
Although when I capture the Wolf ingame, the screenshot looks like this:
This Wolf has greyish color tone (instead of brown above), and is very "straightened", in contrast to the camera effect mentioned above.
So I would like to ask if it is possible to set the video card/monitor settings so that it represents the color tone of the above Wolf, or had the upper picture been trimmed in PS/etc.?
I did play a bit with monitor and nVIDIA Control Panel settings a few times, but still cannot get the result of the first picture.

That screen shot was taken in a system with a different colour
You can zoom in on your ship by holding right mouse, offcentering your ship then holding left and dragging forwards.
You can also change the screen fov with ctrl + both mouse buttons and dragging left or right.
If this makes no sense it's due to my lack of sleep ~ Soar Like a Penguin |

Regarding different system - yeah I know the nebula is different, I'm not referring to that but to the tone of the ship itself. Regarding the FOV advise - thanks for that, this is what may hold the camera effect secret for me. Will try it.

The different colors of the nebula change the tone of the ship. A Red nebula creates a red tone etc....

Edited by: Tornicks on 16/02/2010 03:39:58 Yeah I probably did not think about that.
I took another screenshot (of my Rifter this time) with a different nebula background, also increased contrast and decreased color vibrance:
Looks to be closer to what I want it to look like.
But the Ctrl+mouse buttons movement (FOV adjustment) did not change the camera effect I mentioned. The ship is still not "spread out" like the Wolf in the first pic. Any more ideas how to make it look like that?

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 16/02/2010 05:30:14 It doesn't look like you have successfully changed the pov to a noticeable degree in that pic.
Try playing with it a bit more.
Ctrl + left and right mouse buttons
Then slowly slide your mouse left and right while holding down all three.
You'll know you have it when the stars stand out in startling contract behind your ship and then go back to normal as you slide left and right. Some very nice detail and interesting visual effects happen.
You can also turn on the advance camera view controls from the escape menu, but those are primarily useful for staged video's.

Edited by: Dex Timor on 16/02/2010 13:13:55 I may be mistaken, but didn't CCP remove the fish-eye lens in one of the two last patches ?
I found it: Graphics General
* Complete planetary graphics overhaul. * Star field graphics have been updated. * Camera Field of View (FOV) has been changed.

@ Ranger 1 The FOV changes indeed (stars, nebula and celestials in background zoom in and out), but there is no "fish-eye" effect on the ship itself.
@ M0rkar Yes
@ Dex Timor I knew about the FOV change but thought that that was the change which introduced the "fish-eye" effect. Judging from your post, had the effect been there before the change? P.S. Also thank you for the title of the effect. Now I know how to refer to it.

Before the changes EVE Online had a fairly restrictive FOV and a Fish Eye effect. In teh days of 2003-2007 many people used 1024x768 up to 1280x1024, which are 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions with a few using 1680x1050. Since then up to now many, many more people are using 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 which are widescreen resolutions.
Before the fish eye effect fitted the majority of screens but the uptake of widescreen made the fish eye effect have a severe stretch towards the edge, meaning CCP removed it and made the FOV wider to accomodate multi-screen setups. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

Ahh, now that we are on the same page, yes the fish eye was removed for the reasons above. That and it really distorted the planets as well. ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

If you have Photoshop, you can do a couple things,
For the fisheye, use the lens correction filter.
For the color, use the Hue and Saturation adjustment. Although being in a system with the colors you like is probably simpler.

The tone for the ship is actually the lighting in the system.
GO to any red-ish system in an Amarr ship and then look at one in the model viewer.
Totally different.

Oh my gawd, I just tried that ctrl+zoom and made it so that planets and stations look huge, and it's the coolest thing I've ever seen. There's got to be a way to save these camera settings so they don't reset every time I dock? |

The FoV issue you mention was hated for a long time by widescreen users...as it would highly distort the game at the sides of the screen. It was far worse on multi-monitor configurations.
This problem was fixed in Dominion..to the joy of widescreen and multi-panel users everywhere.
