Never stopped to think about this until now but...after the shuttles stop, NASA is going to have to rely on the Russians to send up crew to the ISS? 0_o So much for the USA's space superiority.

What the hell are you talking about? Russia built 4 of the 14 modules and America built 3. Big deal.
In anycase, we won the space race. And our spacecraft are more advanced. The US have been the dominant nation in space for a long time.

How do you define "won"? First man on the moon was american, first man in space was russian. Advanced spacecraft or not, America's spacecraft have had several disasters, as far as I know, Russian spacecraft have not. The more complex it is, the more that can go wrong, etc, etc. But anyway, I thought the servers were in London?! They lied to us!? -------------------------------------------------

USA did put men on moon, and is to the date only nation to do so. Also, NASA excels on exploration of our solar system (again). But Russians are masters of LEO. You can say that they are proto-Minmatar.
So yes, USA won the race. But then they took toys and went home, while Russians stayed and settled.
Quote: And our spacecraft are more advanced.
O rly? So, those automated spaceships that supply ISS are not advanced enough for you? Or space shuttle capable of actual unmanned landing? Or largest payload capacity in the known space?
Also, on terms of return on investment, hauling capacity and overall reliability, Space Shuttle compared to Soyuz is miserable failure.
(not that it is not impressive piece of engineering, but it did not reach goals of program and now never will)
So what is so advanced? Space Shuttle? Skylab? Saturn V?
Quote:

No, not really.

Originally by: Jerid Verges And our spacecraft are more advanced.
Advanced in what way? Blowing up more or less often? Having better onboard computers? Prettier shade of white? I'm just curious about your definition of "advanced" here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that much into real spaceflight to know who puts the biggest effort into it, the US, EU or even Russia, but your post strikes me as nothing more but patriotic gibberish. :) - In simplistic terms it has been said that there is enough Zero Point Energy in the volume the size of a coffee cup to boil away EarthÆs oceans. |

Of course they had. Space is cold and unforgiving. Also, you go up into space on top of massive explosion and return by nearly burning out into atmosphere. Things tend to happen.

I'm one step closer to making a topic that demands a seperate Eve server and forum for US Americans. They'd be happier, we'd be happier, everyone would be happier.
After all they invented the internet anyway, and non US Americans can't keep up in their profound political discussions.
In fact, I'd like to see the whole internet divided. The same as above would apply. Chinese have the right idea and show us that it's possible.

Can people please be clear on the space race? How can "The US" Be ahead of "Russia"....? :)
You mean people from within the US are ahead in some way or the other... from people in Russia.. Or the other way around which ever is true. Just because you are born within a certain border does not mean you belong to "it"(Russia, The US). Be specific or be oppressed!
Thanks. And out.

Edited by: Magnus Nordir on 17/02/2010 12:15:40 Both US and Russia are still using hardware that was designed in the 60s and first flew in the 80s. Russian capsules happen to be non-reusable, which means they have to build new ones, which means they get upgraded systems more often. And even though they can't be reused, they're still cheaper than the STS (Space Shuttle) in terms of money per person to LEO, not to mention much safer. Ditto with their automatic docking capability, failsafe re-entry and landing, etc. Also cheaper launch vehicles with a better track record than anything America has to offer.

Wait what? First I'd like significant proof of the Yanks landing on the moon (yes I'm a conspiracy theorist), so what if you it looked like you landed on the moon? Where's the proof, I mean if you call a flag that has been placed on the moon but never found again, but wait, in the video wasn't the flag blowing in the wind? How can that be possible when space is a vacuum and has no atmosphere and thus, no wind.
Oh and it was a Brit who invented the internet, one up for us! The greatest invention in human history by far, created by us Brits :)

Good God, where to start...
The space station is made up of 12 pressurised modules. 4 built by Russia, 3 USA, 3 EU, 2 Japan. It's a joint effort you see. cooperation and all that.
There have been plenty of disasters and loss of life from launchers in both the US and Russia. In particular -
Quote:
About two percent of the manned launch/reentry attempts have killed their crew, with Soyuz and the Shuttle having almost the same death percentage rates. Other launchers have not launched sufficiently often for reasonable safety comparisons to be made
(Quote from the article linked above)
Oh and the 'space race'? No one won, both the US and Russia achieved certain milestones but the race is still in progress and more runners are joining in all the time.

Who inventet the internet depends on you definition of the internet. Yes It was a brit that made the world wide web tecknologi, but it was the american military that started the whole internet by building a network of computers and slowly expanding it so more and more groups could acces the same network. oh and here is a link the the story behind WWW. http://www.hitmill.com/internet/web_history.html

don't worry, the EU will do the heavy lift launches with Arianas, Sojouz aren't really suited for big payloads (like new modules), and the russian shuttle hasn't seen any flight time in ages. Crew and crew supplies are going to come from the russians though, can't beat their price per launch.
