Why did CCP allow kill rights? Was it always there or did it happen after alot of tears, I dont get it how in 0.0 you dont get kill rights but in lowsec you do :S
I get the security status penality, since you are in empire but shouldnt kill rights only apply to high sec gankers and not low sec? FIRST!! |

As a general rule of thumb there are two extremes in this game:
High Sec:
"Safe Zones"- If you kill you will lose sec status, and give your victim kill rights.
Null Sec:
"PVP- Zone"- Free for all pvp, no security, no sec status loss, no kill rights.
And in between is low-sec. Because you are still not legally allowed to kill, you will take a sec status drop, give your opponent kill rights, and have a form of aggression against the local authorities.

Edited by: Gladys Pank on 20/02/2010 07:36:57 You get kill rights in empire if the opponent does not aggress you, as an opportunity for revenge.
Null sec is lawless, empire isn't. ~

Couldn't have said it better myself, I would like to add that I think CCP views Kill rights as a kind of payback for *when* someone gets ganked...they can go and hunt the guy down and gank him for a change.

I'd think most killright "transactions" one side is already -10 or so and can be freely hunted anyways. making killrights rather meh.

Kill rights were released in RMR and iirc a lot of people thought they were going to apply to can flipping and were very disappointed when that didn't happen.
I don't think there was a dev blog or many people against kill rights. As CCP said, it was an "Eye for an eye" and the only real satisfaction you get from revenge is when you do it yourself.
Originally by: Jim Raynor EVE needs danger, EVE needs risks, EVE needs combat, even piracy, without these things, the game stagnates to a trivial game centering around bloating your wallet with no purpose. |

An alliance mate recently came across a guy he had killrights on piloting a freighter. I'm sure you are right about most being against KOS people but there are notable and memorable exceptions.

I'd like to see kill rights given when people fail loan contracts.

Only thing that sucks is when you forget someone has killrights on you...luckily I only lost a shuttle. Also, I now have one of those annoying sigs.

A game mechanic I think could be interesting, though I admit I haven't thought about it too deeply -
the ability to sell/trade kill rights on a market of some sort, effectively a (minor) formalization of merc gaming and contracts.
You'd sell or auction a kill right, and that person would gain it from you and get the ability to kill in high sec.
Variations that could make things more interesting: should the target of the kill right be informed of the transfer of ownership of said kill right/bounty? I can see pros and cons to each...
Thoughts?

Somebody has probably said this before, we should be able to wardec individuals.
Something that allowed plenty of room for retaliation etc so probably make it work so that any individual/corp/alliance could wardec any individual/corp/alliance at any time.
Maybe max of 3 active of each type?
