Plain and simple, how much do you have to have ISK to be rich in EVE?

I guess its subjective to who your talking to. Some people feel 100s of mil is rich and others 10s of billions if not much more.

I'd say you are starting to look pretty rich around 10b ISK. I suppose this can include assets. The truly wealthy have hundreds of billions though. There are likely even a few out there with over a trillion ISK.

Edited by: Demolishar on 20/02/2010 13:12:29 I have 5 billion and I don't feel rich at all. When I had 200mil I was pvping in T1 fit ships (although I could fit T2)... once I had 500mil I started pvping in T2 fit cruisers... now I'm up to 5 bil I've started pvping in T2 fit Battlecruisers. Maybe once I hit 15-20bil I might start undocking T2 cruisers in situations where theres a possibility of losing them.

Losing a well fit mission ship easily chops 5b in half. Losing a high end PvP ship ditto. So I wouldn't call 5, 10 or even 20b rich. |

So if the loss of a single item cuts your fortune in half, that means you're not rich? What sort of logic is that? No matter how much money you have, you can conceivably find something expensive enough to spend half of it on and then lose it, so by your logic, one can never be rich.
If you can afford to fit and fly a 2.5 billion mission ship, then you are rich.

It depends on many factors. Your EVE age is one of the most important.
For a 5 days old jack, having 100m isk is an insane amount of money he could not even know where to spend in. Because a frigate is all what he can fly, and those cost 500k isk, or 6m isk with ultimate fittings.
On the other hand a 3 years old guy may find that 10b is a small wallet because he wants to buy several T2 BPO for longterm profit and stability but he can't afford them yet.
By the way, the average player wallet on this game is about 400m isk.

You're being way too careful. I joined a 0.0 PvP corp at a mere 3 weeks old, flew T2-fit cruisers about 4 months later (and lost em), starting flying inties at around 6 months, flew T2-fit BCs at around a year old, and so far lost about 4-5 Vagas. Right now at 2 years old at just over 300mil ISK I'm the richest I've ever been :) ____________________

I'd say:
500 mil - 2 bil is lower middle class.
2 bil - 10 bil is upper middle class.
10+ bil is upper class
1+ tril is super filthy rich ----- 'In Eve, as in real life, if you are bored it's your own fault.' |

Plain and simple: You don't have to have any ISK to be rich in EVE.
It's far more important to have the equipment you want or need. ISK is merely the tool to get those.
Having billions doesn't help if you keep bleeding capital out of your pocket every time you lose ships. It's far more important to find ways to invest your capital so you can live (read: die, or at least get ships blown up) off the interest the investments generate.
For someone only flying T1 frigs, 100M is enough to last them for months. For someone dual boxing capital ships, it's not enough to buy the fittings for one.

1+tril is super filthy rich? Does that mean that EVE-bank is super filthy ****ed?
On another note, I don't value my character based on wallet+assets, I look at who likes him, and what they're worth. Friends > ISK. (Hence, I don't scam. Much easier to just borrow.) _____ ^ That is a sig line. It should be there without me having to put one in. |

Why would you need 5 bil to pvp in T2 fit BCs?? if they're insured you usually make back the cost of the ship plus cost of insurance, only having to pay out for the fittings again.

rich isn't a level of isk, its a level of income.
If your earning 500 mil a week through ordinary gameplay your probably rich.

Because once you spend isk on a BC you can't reinvest that money in something you could make a profit on. The opportunity cost is the amount you could be making with that 45 million (EDIT: moar like 55 million with insurance and fittings) if it wasn't locked into a ship you will also lose and have to replace. Now consider that in Eve it's often possible to make a 80%+ profit margin on market transactions and immediately reinvest in the same day.
TL; DR I'm a billionaire and I'm not even flying cruisers yet lol.
