I have recently reported a macro miner for being the s****they truthfully are.
Am I just going through the motions or will this actually have any kind of result?
Should I just gank this guy?

Reporting is pointless, nothing will get done about it. Just gank him.

Do both. Max BS insurance and a cheap fit with a few round of ammo should minimize the loss. I'm not a specialist though. Better wait for pro tips on ship/setup first.

Report them. Time and time again when people complained that reporting them would be pointless, CCP said they do care and need that information.
As long as there are people buying ISK other than through official means, there will be people providing it. So CCP will, rather than banning the farmers/macroers right away, just monitor the money trail and punish those actually buying the ISK.
And don't forget Unholy Rage.

macro miners are paying customers too....
with that sentence in mind, do you really think CCP will ban them? Not going to happen buddy and I would like to see soembody prove me wrong. I do macromine myself and even admited it several times, but Im still here, Im still playing the game
Macrominning is an awesome method of getting some decent amount of ISK while you are at work and cant play.
So join the macrominning cause, because you deserve maximum ISK from minimum work! |

I've had mixed results in the past, with some reported miners gone within 24 hours and others still flying around to this day. I don't know if that's down to how CCP identify macro users and them erring on the side of caution but I do know it isn't because CCP file macro petitions under trash.
They do listen, they do care, they just might not always swing the ban stick for reasons only they know. |Adventures in Acquisition| |

I can see the logic in why they may choose to ignore the one macro miner in order to after the ISK seller. Though, I'd still think shooting down their income might prove more crippling to the operation in the long run.
Seriously though, they choose some of the most obvious names you can think of. There's one guy I'm sure is a macro, Obtainium, is the name some kind of ironic joke or a spit in the face of CCP?

But why? We report them and 3 months later they're still their in their hulks, with their gibberish name, mining 23/7.
If you want people to keep reporting, actually do something about the reports that you get.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 22/02/2010 09:48:00 Problem with macroers and sweatshops is proving they are a macro. I mean, the simplest it takes is that if they see blue text (GM speaking) they reply, thus "proving" that there's someone "playing" the client. They don't need to reply to Mr. J. Random.
So, for macros there would need to be proof that there actually is a client modification in use on the remote end. Similarly, for sweatshops there would need to be proof of account share. Both of these are quite difficult to get over the 'Net unless EVE installs some pretty ugly spyware. Regular memory-sweeping anti-cheat apps will likely not be effective, since the sweatshops can likely hire a few people to disarm the mechanism or create other workarounds - and if labour is cheap enough, there's no need to macro when you can have a few people in a one-room flat multiboxing a load of clients.
However, what the petitions will likely do is that they give the GMs hints on where to start following the stream of ISK. For the "industrial" farmers, losing loads of barges will sting a bit, but not as much as losing their possible ISK laundry and "banking" accounts.
Edit: For clarity. And grammar.

You can tell because macros will keep flying to and from belts in a pod even after you blow the hulk.
So, gank first, report if you see it still going!

Besides the above I typed, macros tend to stick to the same bot softwares. The bot softwares force their users making some static things (can't be more precise here, I don't want to cripple CCP's chances) that can easily be spotted by a simple SQL select (how fitting, macros spotted using SQL "macros").

Such a brilliant statement!
If you want help in stopping macro players join MacroIntel channel, there are alot of players out there who do this - and it can be very profitable too :)
I would also like to add that CCP do seem to ban these people, I have had a number of people banned for it in the past.
The first thing I did when I came back to EVE after a years absence was to go straight after macrominers and mission runners - its great fun :)

reporting the macrominers...
CCP reply: we will look into matters (meaning nothing happens).
telling the truth, that macro minning is'nt dangerous for the CCP banhamer, in the forums...
CCP reply: we will ban your account for a week. ouch!
Meaning, there are no justice in the CCP world, but random punishment, regarding on whos CCP'ass that have drawn guard duty. Do not say anything illegal, if there is a CCP staff members on duty, who havent gotten laid latly. You have all be warned!!!!!

I've seen suspected Macro Miners but I couldn't say for sure that they were. Telltale signs could be: 1. Warping out when you arrive close by (even in a shuttle)
2. No replies in local, or convos.
3. Very efficient exits while mining full cargos
4. Seeming to mine 24/7, apart from downtime
5. Taking a longer than normal time to dock and undock
This might very well be a way to spot them, but I wouldn't contact CCP until I saw their pod go to their usual mining locations. (not seen that yet)
A lot of miners dont convo anyway, and the severe ganking solution just seems a bit overkill TBH. At the end of the day, if someone is macro mining 24/7, and if you gank them, the loss of ISK will be minimum compared to what they have stored away. A pleyer could likely easily buy another Hulk. Sad I know.

Making a list and checking it twice.
Look CCP is about going big or going home. They'll ban them, but not before they can make sure they're banning them, their friends, their friends friends, and quite possibly the family dog too.
Just give it a few more months and they'll all get banned.
