Hi there,
I'm not sure if anyone has already elaborated on this or not, but I'm curious as to what are the main skills involved with planet industry and infrastructure?

at Fanfest, devs stated Planetary Interaction will have a very low barrier to entry
They stated that day old noobs should be able to engage in it. I'm not a big fan of blind speculation, but based on this information, we can expect the skill set and isk cost to be pretty low. _____________________________________________

If its that low it will be interesting to see. Im betting the skills will be a minimum, it will probably be more isk intensive than anything, as well as man power intensive defending and supplying the damned things. Lots of opportunities for war tbh.

Most important question is what you get from planets?

Yes I'm wondering this too, if it's a brand new series of materials then what will they be used in? If it's materials that already exist then this could have a significant effect on the market for whatever those materials are... -------------------------------------------------- Has a mining and production fetish |

While I'm not big on speculating, I agree with Dac, new, lower skill subset with a few higher up ones. A proficient trading alt doesn't take a whole lot of training (couple weeks tops?). I personally believe they will be all new resources; the question is what for and will the demand be high enough? Or will these resources become ridiculously abundant due to low barriers to entry and the gold rush effect?
PS I only fixed the link he quoted, I'm lazy. _____________________________________________

Edited by: Lord Helghast on 22/02/2010 13:18:37 I'd hope the skills will determine what u can manage, like low skills, means lower class manufacturing and mining facilities, and as you skill up for it you get access to higher class upgrades for your districts, and better survey skills means u can access better districts for conquest.
So the day old characters can grab a small district, but if a corp comes in and wants to do planetary development as their main source, they can grab large districts, and sink big time ISK into the planets and develop their districts to be massive bohemoths on the surface.
....
Wait i just thought about that,
THATS HOW THEY COULD MAKE IT SO THAT PLANETARY INDUSTRY DOESNT EFFECT MINERALS, NPC Goods, like the toy dolls and stripers and stuff, maybe thats what the planetary exports will be and then we can inturn sell those to npc buyers or something (i dunno im just guessing lol)
As planets tend to export less minerals and more completed items in my mind.

I would be quite suprised if it does NOT involve learning of totally new skills (planetary bla management) wich are totally overprized (XX mio), high ranked and need a crapload of lvl5 prereqs |

My guess is that a lot of what you'll do with planets will be to create things needed by Dust514 players.
But... I agree that there needs to be something in it for the EVE player. But what? Inquiring minds want to know.
Tech II components? Perhaps stuff to make Tech II rigs? Perhaps trade goods? Perhaps it will just throw off straight ISK.

It will be really easy to start it, like they said it at fanfest (youtube link above).. So starting of the planetary interaction will be easy.

Could we be lucky for POS fuel? Maybe the fuel pellet idea? Consumables or food stuff? New minerals for new Technology? Could this be the place for personal research labs??

So it's gonna be like farm-ville and you get to hire dusk players to attack other players farms?

This is where having a couple younger brothers and friends, who only play first person shooters will come in handy. Muuwhaaa.

I predict fun.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm enjoying the hell out of Dominion so far. From the sketchy info offered planetary development looks like more of the "build your infrastructure and profit" that we're liking in Dominion.
Eventually having warfare on your planets as well as in your space will make it just that much richer.
The way that I see Eve going is the rich development of local areas so that the game isn't just about a few mega-blobs waring over (mostly) empty space. Regions, and even constellations, will have stories of their own with their own local power structures and politics.
Those who buy into this and develop heavily will have an advantage long term over those who cling to older strategies for succeeding at the game. ---------------- We're recruiting quality players. Check us out. |
