Does anyone have any information on this future xbox game? I heard that you (as the player in dust 514) would be able to accept mercenary work in the form of contracts (from the players that created them in Eve online) and fight on behalf of the contractor (once again in the Xbox game dust 514).
How this pertains to this forum is. Will the faction warfare pilots be able to do this or just the null sec corps? Also how will the mercanaries in the Xbox game get paid? Do you have to own both PC and Xbox games? (Which I will) Xbox as payment? Isk? Both? If its anything like I described I am very excited. Please post any and all links you find about dust 514. And I suggest you get an Xbox and make some isk taking planets for the highest bidder!

And I would suggest CCP make Dust playable on the PC. I, for one, am not going to spend a couple hundred bucks on a console with a 50% failure rate to expand my eve experience. I'd love to play it on the PC, however. Oh, well, here's to hope and the inevitability of shattered dreams.

I seriously doubt there will be an xbox release though from the footage I have seen so far they had a 360/ps3 logo in the bottom of some of them. Time to upgrade to a ps3 tbh. Free internets access for games and its a much better platform for newer games provided the devs puts sufficient time into sonys arcane console code that the ps3 uses. Or you can get a 360 if less non game utility and aging hardware is ok.

about the 'PC please' comment, wouldn't you rather take the time playing EVE while you have access to a computer? I believe the idea is that the players on a computer will play EVE and the Dust 514 population will be console players, that way neither one loses players/gameplay because of their own co-produced game. Because face it, without enough Dust 514 players, it fails, and without enough EVE players, Dust 514 still fails, need players on both ends.

I have all 3 current consoles in my home. I hear all this talk about failure rate on 360s and haven't had a problem once in years. I suppose i'm just lucky. I'm all for alternatives to anything microsoft, but the 360 had the most favorable game selection at the time of my purchase. I recently picked up a PS3 just so I could play MAG which looked like it might play a little bit like how I imagined DUST will be.
People who don't own consoles understandably want the opportunity to play DUST as well, but I don't really think putting it on PCs as well is a fantastic idea. There's just too many ways the game balance can be tipped due to the tools available to a PC user. A couple hundred bucks really isn't a big deal if it's a good game, given the sheer amount of other games that suddenly become available to you as well, via purchase or video store rental or whatever. I know PC people love to rip on consoles but it's a fun way to game. For me it's a nice excuse to get away from the computer desk and relax for awhile on a couch. And best of all, no crashy mcbuggerton and exploding windows problems every time I want to try a new game or whatever. Things just work on consoles. Or you get a refund.

If you already own a decent computer a $35 gamepad can replace the console in that situation. Add me to the list of folks who want to see a PC version.

I have a 360, in fact, I'm on my second one. The first one got a RROD, and the current one frequently fails to boot, fails to read the disc, and occasionaly blinks a red rig at me. So, any decision to include PC support wins my vote. Should CCP choose to keep it on the console, I hope my box lives long enough to see it

I have been one of the less fortunate. I'm on my 5th xbox and its already showing signs of premature failure (it wont even play the new 'something something something darkside' dvd anymore). Oddly enough my fist one lasted 3 years, all subsequent replacements have generally lasted 3-6 months. I thought they generally improved over time. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

I just wonder what happens when people stop playing it. Console players tend to switch games a lot more often and how will that affect eve if people dont take the contracts etc.

If this happens then I would just consider it a failed expansion. It happens a lot in computer gaming, specifically in the MMO genre.
I do not see the failure of dust effecting the core mechanics of eve very much. Especially if it did indeed fail. If it failed none of it's features would be involved in eve gameplay at that point because noone would be playing that content.
CCP as well as the EVe commmunity would most likely get over the tarnishment of their game and things would go on.
Also, I personally would check it out. I have bought a console for one game before (was worth every penny IMO). My Xbox is still left over from the halo days. I would at the very least rent dust to check it out for sure.

Edited by: drinking12many on 23/02/2010 16:19:17 Im sure Ill try it out myself if its on the PS3 but I wonder if they will create almost like an NPC character to fill the void as people stop playing dust. Not important yet but it will be interesting to see how it happens. If nothing else the PS3 still has its uses ....GT5 coming soon

I hope it does fail in the console market, that way CCP is forced to release it on PC/Mac

A quick look on google tells me there's some x-box emulators out there, has anyone tried them?
Running an emulator on the PC rather than having to buy a console just for one game sounds like a good bet if it works. Sig_______

Original XBox emulators might work, but not even the most powerful PC can truly emulate an XBox 360 at this point (though don't quote me on the power issue; PCs may be powerful enough, but there's a whole bunch of proprietary stuff that makes it really hard to do. Suffice it to say, there are no 360 emulators available.)
Re: DUST on the XBox: If you'll notice at Fanfest, they were playing it with an XBox 360 controller. Now, they DO have those controllers for the PC (you can even use your wired 360 controller directly with your Windows PC), so he may have simply been playing it with the controller on a PC.
I think it begs the consideration, though, that the controls may have very well been designed with a controller in mind.
You also need to consider what the goal of DUST is. They've flat out said that DUST is meant to be targeted at a) people who want more twitch, action-based gameplay, and b) people who do not want to sink such a time investment into EVE. Which, to me, seems like a lot of people who play consoles exclusively.
In the history of multi-platform releases, there have been very few (maybe one? UT3) that have introduced cross-platform multiplayer. If CCP is going to continue that trend and NOT do cross-platform play, then the most logical idea would be to bring it to the XBox, the largest market for that style of gameplay.
Just my .02.

I understand the technical issues behind releasing it on a console first. But do you really think people will buy a XBOX only for dust? I have no interest playing other console games, but if it would be released for PC i would certainly subscribe (pay with PLEX?? ;)).

After playing FPS on PC, it makes me feel like a cripple when using a controller.

lol, i hear ya man.
What I think would be absolutely just epic is if they just included Dusk into eve after incarna, and made planetary interaction into an RTS that way I would never have to buy another game again! (I can dream right?)

I'm a dab hand at FPS's on the 360, having been a COD fan for years, and soon I'll add Battlefield to that list.
I'm excited about Dust. I really hope that they can nail the effect it has on our beloved New Eden. I don't see why people are hostile towards it, aside from it being console based.
Ultimately I'm viewing it as a fun way to pass time whilst those skills train. I'd love it if I could find a Dust clan/corp with which to play. Perhaps if certain clans gain enough notoriety they could become a worthwhile tool to the major alliances.
I haven't read all of the info, but if I can make some isk playing on my xbox I'll be a happy man.

Probably worth waiting for the next-gen of consoles. Dust will likely be right on the tail end of the current generation when they're considered old and crappy.
Regardless it's likely you won't be able to play anywhere except the US or UK if they go with the console standard of P2P game hosting.
