Edited by: Tzar Wallanian on 25/02/2010 10:44:43 I hated the old Scorpion look. The new is pure win.
I was thinking of getting a Rattlesnake or Widow for my main character: Wallaid, but after flying a regular Scorpion I decided the look was not worth it.
New look changed that though I might take another look at the Rattlesnake.
I like the Raven model, but making it symmetrical wouldn't hurt :)

So, no love for the fugly Raven?
if they reskin the raven, to be more "animal-like," i think it should like a plated Romulan bird of prey.
While would love the look, I'm afraid the result would be a copyright lawsuit.
The caracal already looks kinda similar. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

I know Im going to get flamed like crazy for this but here goes:
I dont like it. I think that one of the great things about the old Scorpion was that it took INFLUENCE from the design of an actual Scorpion, but didnt look like a big metal version of one floating in space. This new Scorp model looks too cartoon-ish for my tastes to be perfectly honest. Again, I think that the Caldari ships should draw inspiration from whatever animal they are named after (within reason, but the Scorp is a perfect example), not just look exactly like one.

About time to break that promise to myself, to never train battleships. That looks nasty. I want. Widow for me.
I want the old one as a collectible though, as I really loved the old skin. ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

It did not need fixing tbh, an iconic ship, the first battleship in the game (some of us remember this) and it looks great as is. If anything the reduction of all the pointy sensor prongs was a sad thing and now the complete loss of those spikes is a shame.
Sure the overall design upgrade is cool, the new Caldari paneling is nice - but this one is trying too hard to look like an actual scorpion with prongs and stuff.
Someone is CCP design team has too much time on their hands - toying with iconic ships, especially battleships is a poor descision.
So why not be more conservative - keep the older ship model, but change the armor pannels and lighting to look more like their t3 design rather then completly killing a great looking ship.
Asymetric design is a caldari thing - the ferox lost it, the Raven got it tonned down. . . clearly someone over at CCP does not like assymitry. And before we know it, all the ships are going to look the same, except they will have different colors. Whatever, my time spent in the Scorp (about 2 years back in early 05/06 was great and I almost never fly one anymore anyway - so I guess its for the newer crowd. -----------

Yeah, matter of opinion, but if you're objective about it, the current model is really outdated in the terms of 3D game-modeling and has been for a while. There's no point to preserve the game looking like 2004 forever. At some point new skins and graphic updates don't cover for the models anymore.
However, since I'm a big fan of all things retro, I think it would be interesting if there was away to preserve the existing ships and only make the ships manufactured or bought (from LP store) after the expansion use the new model. It would give a nice sense of history and RL touch to the EVE universe. Vintage ships ftw!

How about just replacing the armor plating, give it the caldari accents that have become the hallmark of new-caldari design, get all teh shiney lights all shinier and so on - but keep the underlying asymitry and all that - I agree that the model is outdate and could use some spiffing up - but this goes beyond that.
And yes, its my opinion. . . but the caldari marks being wrong on one side does make me sad. . .shows a rel lack of attention to detail - but thats an opinion too.
whatever, they will still be primary, and I will enjoy killing them more. -----------

Edited by: Sunset Rogue on 26/02/2010 14:55:05 These are not stunt planes doing breakneck turns and dives in atmosphere. They are kilometer-long spacecraft and do not need to be designed with aerodynamics in mind. New model tries too hard to look like an actual scorpion and in the end just looks terrible.
Originally by: Atius Tirawa before we know it, all the ships are going to look the same, except they will have different colors.
Wouldn't surprise me.
Edit: Should have spent the time giving the Naglfar model 3 turrets.

"Finally some love"...eh, really, who cares that much about ship graphics when there are som many things that are broken with EVE?
In this particular instance, I truly believe that CCP should have spent that money and hours on fixing what is broken.
Anyways, nice looking ships...btw, it was already nice looking. Go figure!

Considering the people working on this are graphics artists and not programmers I doubt you want them fixing the other problems... just saying.

I was planning to edit my post since after writing it, I noticed I read your post a bit wrong. I agree that the symmetry is a bit easy way out, although I like the new look. Your suggestion for just using the old model as base and building a new look on that (with new plating etc.) is quite valid IMO.
Cheers,

Actually I Like the "new" Scorp's look, but i still feel that the ship in general needs some love that goes beyond just a sexy exterior, and feel that way about alot of things in EVE at the moment.
But progress is better than stagnation!!!

Grats to CCP's art department; the new Scorps look great. I agree with the poster up thread to keep the old Scorps in game as "vintage" ships... years from now ships will have different models from each era, like Corvettes etc.

Well, I really like the new model. At least it looks like it can fly in a streigt line now. I would like it even more if the left small fin on the wing would be removed, and the right one got a large pointy antenna on top of it, just like the old Scorp has.
