Well atleast it's not a bad game.... but nothing that will make you remember it, like TA or FA did.
And Siigari summed up why really. The soul of TA isn't there anymore, it's just a decent RTS like oh so many other ones. Interesting though that while supcom goes the C&C way, C&C itself goes the DOW way... which will get it's expansion in a couple of days as well...

CT is trying to reach the console crowd, not that you can blame him as although Supcom+FA may be great games, they wern't good for business. at all.

At face up value, the game is pretty good (played it over my buddies) as a Supreme Commander game, what on earth have they done to my precious Cybrans.

They've crushed all of my hopes and dreams that I may have had for the next Supreme Commander/Total Annihilation game.
It's just plain wretched.

I posted this on the SHC forums:
I installed it last night and was really disgusted. This is not Supreme Commander!
It's like the developers went:
Lead Dev > Oh **** guys! ****! Weren't you looking at the calender!? We have to release a game in 2 months!
Dev 1 > Ohboy... We're ****ed...
Dev 2 > Wait wait.. we still got a prototype design of Supreme Commander on a backup somewhere. How about we fix that up a bit so it looks releasable and try to sell that?
Lead Dev > Good thinking number 2! We'll need to clean up the maps, maybe add some more...no wait that'll take too long... just clean them up. Oh and add some minor functions, a grid overlay that doesn't do anything when you're zoomed out or something.
Dev 1 > Ok that'll work, what about the graphics themselves? The units are just for testing.
Lead Dev > Oh jeez..., we'll say it's for increased performance, broaden our market reach and such. Err... what else...
Dev 2 > Well... It still has the old tech tree, no AI, the very old resource system and no seraphim.
Lead Dev > Oh for ****s sake! We're never going to fix all that up in time, just speed the game up a bit so it looks a bit like Starcraft 2. Prepare for some 100+ hour workweeks people.
Dev 1 & Dev 2 > FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I tried it, it played like a slide show on my old AMD 4000. It was fun, really it was, i just cant play it. -------------

I'm not sure what this is, but a Total Annihilation game this isn't.
Also, oddly, the graphics seem to be a downgrade from SC1.

I'm a SC 1 fan so I have to say I'm disappointed, but to be fair if they called it SC Lite as someone in this thread has done already people might have been a bit more forgiving.
If your undecided on it the demo will help make up your mind, I pre-ordered it so I'm stuck with it and I'll just have to wait and see what patches and the community can do for it.
To sum it up, SC2 is to SC1 what Civilization Revolutions is to Civ 4, which to be fair for a console port is enjoyable enough and good for a couple of hours, but if you want the full monty you have to go back to the originals.
There's already someone working on a mod to adjust the scale as well, which iirc is the same in map size as SC 1, it's the unit models that are bigger, needs confirming but I'm sure that's what was said.

First impressions are not overwhelming. Basically they've stripped out everything that made supreme commander, supreme commander. It could be any generic robot RTS. I hate to use the term but essentially it's been dumbed down.
