hey guys
i've been playing for a bit over a week now, and i'm a little lost as to where i should head next
i'm flying the gallante cruiser Vexor atm, and i'm wondering what skills i should be training up to be most effective with that ship, and with gallante ships in general
so far i've trained gallante cruiser, drones, medium hybrid guns, and a bunch of 'rate of fire' and 'ship agility/velocity' type skills
thanks in advance for any advice ella

You seem to have gotten the idea. Keep training those kinds of skills, you may also want to have a look at learning skills (just train them up to 4 for the rank 1 ones and 3 for the rank 3 ones, at least as a start, later on you'll be able to decide for yourself).
If you keep running out of stuff to train, have a look at the skills on the market, or in your sheet, if you see a skill and think "that will help me in the ship I'm currently flying" then buy it and train it to at least level 3, preferably 4 and with time, you may want to get it to 5

As a self proclaimed Gallente drone *****, I must concur that you are indeed on the right path.
However, if I may offer a personal opinion?
Since you are young it would be wise to prioritize and focus a bit on your skill tree. I say this because gunnery skills are not really a big deal to the Vexor. Its main DPS dealer are the drones it carries (5 lights and 3 heavies or 10 lights and 5 mediums... or some variation thereof). Thus, if you want to become a dedicated Vexor pilot I suggest you put more effort into your drone skills followed by armor based skills (for survivability), navigation (for speed), and cap based skills (for endurance).
Now mind you, this doesn't apply to all Gallente ships. Just the drone boats (Vexor, Myrmidon, Dominix, Ishkur, Ishtar). Ships such as the Thorax focus more on gunnery (specifically hybrid blasters) and use drones more as a compliment to their armaments.
To be honest, being a "good" drone boat pilot requires serious investment in drone related skills (even at 2 mil SP in drones my drones skills are considered "sub-par"). You'll also hear some people "poo poo" drone ships being "good" in PvP combat. But don't let this dissuade you from choosing your ship. Fight with your favorites and learn how to use them!! thanks for the tips so far
i only picked gallante because i liked the looks lol. and the vexor because it made a pretty decent mining ship (i got sick of mining pretty quickly)
and yes, i forgot to mention i have trained the memory, intelligence and learning to lvl 4
i can only use 4 drones at one time, though i can carry like 20

You can always cross train to other race's ships later when you feel ready, so there is nothing holding you back from trying out Minmatar, Amarr or Caldari ships if you decide you like the sound of them, apart from time to train the skills.
I enjoy my drone boats, once you train to use the utility and ewar drones you find you have more options besides just doing damage. If you get stuck you can always take a look at some of the certificates for guidance on what skills might be useful to you, the core and defence ones are useful to give you some clues, but you seem like you are working on the right lines.

For the vexor, I'd concentrate on first getting tanking skills up to use a tech 2 medium armor rep.
Then concentrate on drone skills. You might even want to do drones 5 before training for the repper since it's a 20% damage increase for a few days training.
After that, get fitting skills going: Engineering Energy Grid Upgrades Electronics Electronic Upgrades Weapon Upgrades Advanced Weapon Upgrades
And then gunnery.

And definitely train up Drone Interfacing, even a few levels can increase your drone damage by quite a bit.

For gallente combat pilot you need skills in: - Hybrid weapons (blaster & rails) - Drones (T2 medium & light) - Mechanic (Armor tanking & rigs) - Core competency standard certificate preferred

I know it might seem like a long skill, but you need to do Drones V. So you can fly 5 drones!
Also some of the Electronics and Engineering skills that improve your cap and cpu for every ship you fly.

^^ THIS.
Getting Drones V unlocks a crapton of support abilities that can make even basic T1 drones awesome... especially the Drone Interfacing skill which gives 20% damage per level.
And let me just add... if you think Drone V is a long skill to train then you're going to hate Drone Interfacing 5: for me, with +3 implants and all learning skills to lvl 4, it take well in excess of 26 days (which is why it sits at lvl 4 and will be the last drone skill I finish)
Good luck!

This is a very good start, though I wouldn't worry too much about gunnery at the moment. Don't forget about the mechanic skills hull upgrades and mechanic, and the nav skills.
If you plan on flying an Ishtar or a Domi, then having near prefect drone and support skills is a must. I normally fly an Ishtar and as soon as HAC is at lvl 5, I will raise my averageish gunnery skills. Almost all my damage is from drones as all but a couple of my skills are at lvl 5.
Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

Do not forget to pick up on the core skills as well.
Capacitor skills, targeting skills, navigation. At least train them to III, you should be able to pull it off within a few days. _______________________ We come for our people! |
