The game turns a blind eye to those who lie and cheat and steal. You can RATIONALIZE it by saying it helps to alert us to those who would do that IRL. But the game creators seem to obviously admire those people. The crooks are the ones who frequently succeed in this game. And by the Old West Standards or todays standards you are allowed to protect your assets. "Ninja Salvagers" are nothing but thieves. And we who worked hard to create those wrecks are not allowed to protect them from thieves. That is a major part of the pay from Missions. But yet if we shoot a shuttle without giving a kick-back for a WarDec to the creators the game takes instant action. There is enough stealing and lying going on in real life without the games we play giving tacit approval to dishonesty.

But that's what this game is... when you first join the game they even say in the welcome email that it's a world full of despicable so and so's and calculating corporations out to fleece you. The warnings are everywhere. If you can't handle that then, I know it's become a cliche around here but... Hello Kitty online is over there. ->
Of course, you could just do what the people bugging you do. Stop doing missions and go ninja salvaging. Most of the time ninja salvagers aren't even targeting you personally, they're just opportunistically cruising around looking for wrecks to salvage and people to grief. Ignore them, and once the mission is done, move to a new system for a while.

I don't understand the purpose of keeping a thread civil when it's started by an emo guy that can't use the search function. Couldn't we just lock it?

Edited by: Ran Khanon on 28/02/2010 21:16:52 I'm mostly an honest guy myself but I wouldn't want it any other way as it is now (apart from taking certain mission items NOT flagging for pvp, which is lame).
In-game crime is an incentive to take precautions and use your skills and wit to minimize the risk of what you're doing. If there wasn't the risk of being suicide ganked or can flipped or ninja salvaged, life in empire space would become a whole lot more predictable and boring.
There wouldn't be a reason to ever watch your screen while mining. There wouldn't be a reason to not switch on your autopilot and go afk on long hauls with valuable cargo. There wouldn't be a reason to find your own, quiet and cozy system to mission in to avoid the main fleet of ninja's, etc.
Use your wit and adapt!

Eve isn't about proving who has the biggest ****. Eve is about proving who can act like the biggest ****.
Your joy comes at the expense of the joy of others in a great many of this game's playstyles, and vice versa. Someone who has their fun by scanning down wreck sites at a mission and then laughing at emo tears knows this. The sooner you accept it the sooner you can join in on what I would call anti-fun.
But this thread is flamebait anyway because only the completely clueless or the very new haven't encountered CCP's [repeated] statements regarding salvage.

The best part about Eve is the fact that you can do almost anything. In some cases it works in your favor. Sometimes it does not. Some people just like to sit around in High sec, mission, mine ect. Others enjoy the life of crime, piracy, and other unsavory things. You can't have one aspect of the game without the other.

No, it actively rewards those who lie, cheat and steal. There's a difference.

If you're losing salvage to ninja salvagers it means you don't have enough people to complete the mission properly. Recruit more people that have the specific job of salvaging, or move to missions that don't require all of your current fleet members to function as dedicated fighters.

To the OP, heres a tip, pirates get motivated by tears, theres a strong correlation with tears and piracy, increase tears and piracy increases, now every second your thread exists a carebear will get shot.
I am not a pirate (yet) but I would not have this game any other way, ninja salvagers are NOT ALWAYS there, sure they pop up time to time but rather than flaming I bet if you laughed at it they probably will leave you alone (not really) but stop making it sound like they are doing major damages to you, I know how much we make in lvl 4s and unless you are getting bombarded with ninjas I dont see a problem.
This game would be dead if you got rid of the pirates and griefers, seriously HTFU or go play WoW FIRST!! |

I've only been playing half a year, but i quickly understood the salvage/loot mechanics and they have been the source of some really great fun. I mean numb-hands-from-the-adrenaline, laughing like a loon sort of fun that is heightened by the fact it is a person on the other end of the situation, not some generated zombie. I can bear the losses because they sting for the same reason the wins feel really, really gooood. Office workers in Taiwan were being warned last year not to play too much in this game where they grow fruit and veg, sell at market, and steal from their neighbors. Basically an agrarian EVE. My ancestors either starved or feuded with their neighbors endlessly, this is true of all peoples. EVE satisfies a need for play and danger that is not met by IRL civilisation, which offers work and safety.
TLDR : i can haz ur stuff, OP?
