Sooooo how many of you EVE onliners are programmers? Or have some sort of experience with CS? Also, what's your favorite language? I'm not a programmer myself, but my first CS class has been a blast, and I therefore enjoy C++... any development tools you specifically like? _________________________________________________________________
Wrong! - Cortes YES! I HAD MY SIG EDITED! DEVS FTW!
Also, you just lost the game.

Not working as a developer right now but writing code was one of my first real jobs and it was what got me interested in computers in the first place (first piece of code written in basic on an Apple computer back in 1985).
I have worked with Basic, Visual Basic, C#, Turbo C (borland), C++, Perl, PHP, All Visual C whatever, VB Scripting, HTML (some consider that a code), and many other I don't even remember. Even some assembly, 8 bits, for the PIC16F8x.
My favorite language (hands down): C++
My favorite kind of projects: Computer Telephony, Asterisk based IVRs and Call Managers.
Don't have a favorite environment tho... whatever works and it's out there for free will do.
Favorite debug method... print all the code, tape it to a wall, sit on a chair with a beer and stare at code until enlightenment arrives.

Edited by: defiler on 01/03/2010 19:53:04 Programmer? Depends - I know a fair bit, but I'm not really writing any code these days.
Went to college where they taught me the wonders of microcode as one of the first courses, before moving on to assembly on M68k. Then C, Java, C++, C# and Ada. I think that my favourite would have to be Java. Sneer in contempt if you want, but for my pet project that never gets anywhere Java is good enough. Always wanted to rewrite it in C, but Java has spoiled me with the standard libraries, garbage collection etc.
However, my last bit of programming at college was all about assembly programming on Atmel processors. I miss those days. Late night writing code, then flashing it and finally hooking up the processors to an oscilloscope to find out what went wrong at what time (that happened a lot ("hmm, nothing's wrong with the signals, are you sure you wired it correctly?" *))... Man. Sure, high-level stuff is nice and all, but for me programming has never been that much fun.
*Or my favourite: "hey, that processor is drawing over 10 amps. Is that normal?" It isn't, but by some miracle it didn't die. Got pretty hot though.

well, I am not a programmer myself but during my undergraduate I did learn some programming.
Most of the stuff i did was in C. C ftw! I used EMACS and VIM (when i wasnt at a lab) for programming.
I also learned C++, Java, X80/86 Intel Assembly.

Edit: For Java I use netbeans, very useful program.

I am not a good programmer as such but i have enjoyed making user created Access databases better and faster with VBA, SQL, MYSQL for work. Its surprising how many smaller firms become dependant on Access spaghetti code monsters.

"copy con"? Jeez, try moving up to edlin.
As for languages: C/C++, Pascal, VB, Perl, Python, VB.net (aka VB doesn't suck anymore,) and Java. Favorite would have to be Perl: comprehensive libraries, stuff just works, good documentation, runs everywhere, regex ftw!, and often does what you mean as opposed to doing what you say.
But, in reality, the difference between the current generation of mainstream OO languages (java, c#, perl, vb.net, python) nowadays are just syntax and libraries. Use the language that has the most convenient features/libraries to do whatever you're trying to do.

3rd year comp sci major.
done Java, Matlab, c++ (I almost feel able to claim c, as my first c++ class was almost all old c stuff), a few assembly languages, some language for a stamp, doing a bit of ruby, haskell, python, fortran, c, lisp, and a few others this semester.
need to do some c# at somepoint.
I've mostly used Eclipse, and starting to use netbeans for a project this semester.

Oh lets see: Pascal, VB6.0, Java, VB.NET, C#, C++, Python, SQL(if you consider that a programming language).
C# and C++ are my favorites. Unfortunately due to reassignments at my current job it was : "Write for Dynamics NAV (C/AL) or find another job, sorry"
IMHO: Microsoft Dynamics NAV is the worst piece of **** ever. Oh wait... GPGNet does even worse I think. :p

I've been programming for a few years, though still a long way to go before I'm happy with my skill level; I tend to use a lot of standard Assembly at the moment but do a bit of software development with C++, C# and Delphi as well. Currently re-learning Java and brushing up on C++.

I am a COBOl programmer, and it's still very much alive, a lot of banks are using it still....In my company, COBOL is main language...
Oh, and also I'm skilled in OSB (Oracle Service BUS) which uses XQuery mostly, but I don't know much about other languages (been i programming for 2 years only).
Hope to learn more, tough!
